Horrible vibration at 6kish

Lately my car has been giving me problems...One thing I noticed was I get this horrible vibration at around 6k and up in gear. It feels as though the car is going to shake its self to death. This can be at any throttle position. What could this be--motor mounts ...??? I also have a shakey drivetrain. If I spin the tires the drivetrain jitters and the shifter looks as though it's going to shoot through the roof. Could all this be related? The PPF isn't damaged. I do have the ACT prolight flywheel and Extreme 6-puck clutch.

Thanks
Marshall

I also had the same problem when i had to drop the tranny in my 1999 Trans Am to replace the slave cylinder. Initially, i looked at ALL the problems related to other things thinking it was something in the drive shaft, i replaced the motor mounts, thought it could be incorrect replacement of the clutch (since i unbolted it to make sure it was good) . Come to find out it was the differential, might want to look into that =).

if my diff was the main problem it wouldn't be rpm sensitive. My diff could be causing some of the other issues if ya'll are refering to those? I'll check the diff as there is some play when I turn the driveshaft back and forth; is that normal?

I was at a AutoX and noticed a fuel leak under the upper manifold...So remembering all those great fire stories I call a tow truck. Do ya'll think the fuel leak has something to do with any of this--I doubt it but what the hell I asked? I think the Secondaries are leaking around the grommet I think. Well I'll have to fix this fuel problem first then move onto this vibration problem.

Actually it can be rpm sensitive. All rotating parts have an RPM where they like to shake and vibrate. Long story short, they are engineered such that this RPM is not achievable in normal operation. However, if there is play in the bearing supporting the driveshaft (usually at the diff pinion carrier), this RPM can drop substantially to the point where it *will* happen as you drive.

I suggest you get the diff checked out ASAP, since the vibrations can be very destructive. The play you're looking for is side-side or in-out. A little bit of rotational play might be normal, but I'm not an expert on spiral bevel pinions.

Check, u joints on drive shaft (the ujoint area should not have any play at all, you can kinda spin the drive shaft but only very little (on most other cars atleast if i remember right) , diff mounts and tranny mounts i have a similar problem, but I have a fc, and my tranny mounts are cracked and motor mounts are cracked, at about 6.5-7k i feel like my shifter wants to shake my wrist apart. if all else fails... uh... ... i wish i could be of more help?

i'll check for the in-out and side-side play... U-joints are fine.
