The (hopefully) Definitive Belt Size Thread

Hey guys -

After a late Sunday working on the car, I had a belt break on me due to an ill-positioned hose clamp. Whoops! Ran to Autozone to try and get a belt before they closed. Long story short, it doesn't seem like Autozone's computers have the first idea what belts the FD should have - EVERY belt I got from them was HORRIBLY wrong.

Searched on the forum and didn't have a lot of luck. So, here's this keen thread . Pitch in if you know the right belt sizes for particular pulley setups.

Also, there should be a slight difference in the air pump/alternator belt size for automatics, from what I gather. My car is a 5-speed, so I don't know.

Alternator/airpump/water pump - 5050540 or 5PK1370

Power steering/AC - 4060410 or 6PK1040

Both these belts fit GREAT - went on well, didn't require me to push the tensioner to the end of the travel, etc.

Please chime in if you have other belt sizes or corrections.

Dale

What if you just measured it with a string around the pullies and then take that measurement to the store to get the right size?

Because the dude at the parts counter will likely look at you dumb . Much better just to show up with the correct part number and have him check inventory. Or, call around to parts stores to find one with the belt in stock.

I just got fed up with Autozone's computer being WAY wrong on belt size - that's just criminal. It shouldn't be that hard - you should just tell them what you want and you leave with the right part. Never had problems like this with belts for the FC.

About a 29.5-30 should work for stock pullies. and a 28.5-29.5 for an aftermarket crank pulley.

i tried a 29.5 with the stock pulleys and it was about an inch too big (approximately)

i think the 29.5 works perfect if you have the greddy pulleys or other aftermarket water pump and alternator pulleys
