Hoods and venting
A while ago I received an email from a Utah forum member who said that removing the weatherstripping to the engine bay would provide airflow and reduce temps.
Then I see all these replica hoods with vents.
Then there is JSpecRacer, who has raised the rear attachment points for venting to achieve the same
So I wonder.
Has anyone else removed the weatherstripping? Is this recommended for venting, or not because of noise? Or does the change in seal possible cause damage?
With a vented hood, what is the danger of wet weather driving? Rain + hot FD engine = problems?
That Mazdaspeed hood/replica is the look I would like, no overt louvers, no raised stylistic vents, just a little clean flaring...

Someone did a test a while back by taping pieces of thread to the back of the hood. With the weatherstrip removed, the threads would get sucked under the hood suggesting that air is getting sucked in and not vented out. This may disrupt the airflow through the radiator.

Water going through the radiator opening hits the AC condenser and radiator. Most water from underneath hits the splash guard. If you have a truly functional vented hood, with vents over the turbos, back of the engine, etc., you do not want rain water pouring in there in bumper-to-bumper traffic. It definitely isn't good for all the electrical connections. And it isn't good for everything to be wet. I'm thinking of day to day practicality. What are you thinking of? ******.

All the connectors under the hood are sealed from moisture. I regularly hose off my entire engine bay and clean with simple green. Never had a problem. Usually I'll take a leaf blower afterwards and dry off the areas where water accumilates.

upon discussing my hood raisers with a few rotary tuners here, I am deciding to lower my hood raisers and go with the flush look.
