Hood Won’t Latch

Hello, so quick question, I had the hood off and latch off while I was having stuff done to the car, I go to put it back on and now it won’t latch. It hits the bump stops before it latches. The bump stops were there before everything was removed and it latched just fine. I adjusted the latch up as far as it would go but now I’m out of ideas.

Remove the latch from the car and engage it on the hood with it up. This will confirm that the latch isn't already engaged and also that it's still working. If you have it adjusted all the way up and its still not engaging then it can only be that it's installed wrong or it's broken somehow

If the hood release cable is under any tension from incorrect routing, the latch won't engage at the right point. Older cables can also stick inside their protective sheath. An easy check is to move the cable side to side, and try to push the under dash release latch back in, then retry to latch the hood.
If it still doesn't latch, try a little grease at the latch itself, + move the cable 20 times back + forth.
if all these fail, either your latch has moved, or you .may need a new cable ?

I did buy a new cable for it so it’s not hanging up, but I guess I should have phrased it better. The latch will latch but it seems to be a half inch lower than it was before i had everything apart, if I take the bumpers out it latches, but obviously should have those on there

I did! I actually figured it out lol the cross bar the latch is attached to somehow got bent down slightly, maybe half an inch? It wasn’t that noticeable, but I positioned it correctly and all is good now haha thanks for everyone’s input though!

The hood latch bolts to the front bar that goes between the headlights with 2 bolts. There should also be another bracket going from the hood latch to the bottom reinforcement bar. If that second bracket isn't there (it's sometimes removed for a front mount) the hood latch will be really flaky.
