Honest Normal Idle

At this point, my car idle's in the 950's. If possible I want to try to get it within the 800's and if possible the 700's.

hehe with my mods (located on my sig) you think it would be possible?

Well where's your sig?

Streetport? probably not possible. I think normal idle is 850.

I believe that a stock FD is supposed to idle at 750rpm. Mine is fluctuates from 740 to 850 depending on certain circumstances such as AC being on. But as long as it idles smoothly.. who cares.

Sure, just use the idle adjustment. However, unless the car is surging or something, I wouldn't worry about it.

****, I'm happy when mine gets down to 950. Usually it evens off at about 1100 or 1200, but then sometimes it'll head down to 950 or so. I wouldn't worry to much about it. If anyone asks, tell 'em its a rotary thing.

Well the thing is, I am just trying to tone it down a bit. It isn't THAT important, but I would rather let my car idle smoothly at lower rpms like im used to rather then the 950 where the exhaust starts popping. =)

800rpm. Always steady with or w/out A/C on.

That's wrong (for a stock ECU).

Turn the parking lights on, or turn the AC on at fan level 3 or 4. If the idle doesn't go up, your car's broken!

Worry about it !!

I have a question kind of off topic. When i start my car and if it runs for like a minute or two, after that the idle starts to fluctuate, from 1k to like 750 or so. After i drive it it stops, i was just wondering what that was.

Once everything is warmed up my FD idles at just a tad under 750 rpm with everything turned off. When I turn on the AC with the fan at level 3 (or the parking lights or any of the other things that trigger the Electical Load Control System it idles about 150 to 200 rpm higher (just under 900 rpm).

Page F-135 says that it's the fan position at 3 or 4 that triggers the E/L circuit, not the AC itself, so if you run the AC with the fan at level 1 or 2, that may not result in increased RPM (I tend to always use 3). So I guess I was wrong about the cause of the increased rpm.

BoOsTin FD: It's normal (at least on my car) for the ECU to try to lower the rpm from 1K to 750 during cold warm up. It usually takes 3 or 4 attemps for it to succeed. I would guess that it's what people have called the "lean best idle function".

My rpm's really don't fluctuate much at all, but my boost psi does. After a good drive, at idle and while in Park, with the A/C and radio on, the car is booting about -15. When I turn the A/C and radio off, the boost goes to -17.

Technically, that's vacuum, not boost; and it's normal behavior for just about any internal combustion engine, including NAs. You're just seeing the effect of additional (or lack of additional) load on the engine.

My vacuum is usually in the 20's until the turbos come online but i dunno.

The rpm's go from 1600 to 1200 to 1000 to 950's and just goes a up and down by the 10's.

My boost pattern is about 11-12 PSI.

No mods plus it was never upped.

Do you have an airpump and is it connected to the high flow cat?
