hmmm isnt my fans supposed to stay on with the A/C off?

if i have the blower motor in position 4 and push the A/C switch off, my radiator fans are supposed to stay on right? even if the car engine is cool?

my fans only come on with the A/C switch on.... which relay am i supposed to test?

your fans are supposed to come when you have the A/C on otherwise the fans come on at 221F..not when the engine is cool..

if your fans come on when the A/C is on, everything seems to be working..

The fans will be running at 100% no matter what position the dial is at as long as the A/C button is pressed on. Do not know about the A/C switch being off at position 4 on the dial though.

No, your fans will not stay on without the A/C on, unless you are above the temperature setting of the thermosensor.

Wow...I learn something new every day. So you can't use the fan to blow somewhat cold air like in other cars? (temp setting on the coldest, but A/C off)? More interesting tidbits about this car (like the "heater only works in defrost and feet mode" lol)

Seeing that you're in Cali, I was expecting something more along the lines of "What? The car has a heater? What's that?" Besides...the engine is more than hot enough to keep ya warm whether you want it to or not...

But yea, the dash vents are dedicated to A/C only. Give it a shot. Turn off the A/C, move the temp to the hottest position, and blast it via the face/dash vents. I'll be kinda warm at best haha. It's actually in the Owner's Manual (which VERY few ppl have read, I've noticed)

No but they do come on sooner.... if you have the blower on 4 and in the coldest setting.

With the A/C on, the fans are always on like everyone said.

Amen to that. I've noticed that too. Maybe the owner's manuals disappear by the time these cars move on to their 3rd and 4th owners.
Jeez, one of the fun things about getting a new car (even if it's used) is bringing the car home, and then that night, sitting down and reading the owner's manual to find out all the little things about it. Maybe it would help if people kept their owner's manuals by the toilet, instead of in the glove compartment. (Mine's actually in the pouch behind the passenger seat. It doesn't fit too well in the glove box.)

I've noticed it many a time. Ppl ask various questions (why is my ABS unit still on after shut down, where is this fuse, can I tow from the tow hook, the A/C vs. heat, etc). It's ALL in there.

And? lol. My FD didn't come w/ one when I bought it. So I went to the local stealership and dropped a $20. Money well spent IMO. Heck, I went a step beyond that and bought one of those original leather pouches that the manual and warranty info came in. BUT like you said, the manual itself barely fits in the glove. I highly doubt the leather pouch will too lol

So it's not just me, huh?

Absolutely. We should be thankful. The FD manual is TINY. Ever pick up a BMW manual, esp. for a 5 or 7 series? OMG Lemme put it like this: for a guy who's a car fanatic, and can usually wing it and figure out 99% of the options and features on a car, BMW manuals are NOT optional. They're a must. And they're thicker than some textbooks I've come across...

Here's something for all you manual readers (self included )

On the very first page the manual states to store it in the seatback pouch.

I have a switch wired to the the AC relay position. This allows me to run the fans without the A/C on.
