hit rock in road.. car is shaky..

well i hit a large piece of rock left in the road by a construction crew.. thought i blew a tire.. but thats not the case. The car is shaky when i tried driving it after the accident. Any thoughts on what is wrong? Also, do you think its possible to get the city to pay for any damages.. ? Thanks

get up under that baby if its noticeably shaky youll see whats wrong. if you dont see something broken you messed up your alignment. good luck getting the city to pay. i doubt theyll even consider it.

Well, I'd guess you either bent a rim or broke something on your suspension.

Either way I wouldn't be driving it until I figured out what the problem is..

Good luck, hopefully it's something minor..

Suspect bent rim and possible alignment issue. Take the car to a tire shop and have them check the balance of the tire you hit the rock with. If they can balance it and check run out and it's ok then look for broken suspension parts (shock) damage if allignment is ok.

Another possibility is a damaged tire (sidewall damage?) from the impact.

In any case, like others said, find out what's wrong before whatever it is causes you to have an accident.

A couple of years ago on an early Sunday morning I was leaving my girlfriend's (now wife's) house. Saw a rock in the road a few hundred yards up the road - didn't make the connection that if I can see it that far off it is really big!!

By the time i realized that "holy S#$% it's a BFR" I had no where to go.

The rock actually lifted the car off the ground and I could hear it banging right down the center of the car as I went over it. I stopped and looked under the front - saw no fluids leaking and thought I was OK.

A few days later I noticed my oil guage needle was really low on the dial. Called the shop where I get the car worked on and was told not to worry - guages can sometimes act up.

About a month later I took the car in for an oil change. Called later in the day to see if the car was ready. When my mechanic got on the line, before I could say anything, he says, "what did you hit?"

Damage report: 3 inch dent in the oil pan, tore the engine off it's mounts, subframe bent, oil sensor and cat destoryed.

Rather than try to get a subframe from Japan, the owner of the shop sold me his used subframe for $100. Total damage was about $3,000.

Get your car checked ASAP.
