As far as I know none of those mods really allow you to run a higher boost persay. You need to upgrade your fuel system and get an aftermarket ECU to accomplish running higher boost without problems.

post a full list of your mods.

You could theoretically run 20psi with supporting mods, but at those pressures your air will be superheated, very thin, and you will eat your turbo bearings in a few thousand miles. Also, at those pressures, you will not make much power.

14 psi max for the occasional run. 17 psi if you want to cook those mothers. All properly tune of course.

I wouldn't raise the boost above 10psi before upgrading the ECU and the intercooler, and having the ECU tuned by a professional.

psi is worthless.
ask about afr's, egt's, and horsepower...along with intake temps, oil and coolant temps, etc. it's all relative

DDagman, Guitarjunkie brings up a great point. Boost is not necessarily a bad thing, but you've got to tune the rest of your system to compensate for it. If you don't own an aftermarket ECU and a wideband O2 sensor, don't even think about increasing the boost.

GUITARJUNKIE28, while I agree with you (boost doesn't kill motors, poor tuning kills motors), he asked about increasing his boost, so people have responded by saying "don't do it!!" Since you're bringing up tuning, I'd personally like to hear any advice you're willing to offer.

The BNR's are the only real upgrade over the stock twins. The efini's are no more powerful/strong than the stockers.

with 93 pump gas you are rolling the dice at 15 psi and up

at least put 5 gallons of 100 in there

that's another advantage to running a single because the larger turbo is more efficient at higher boost levels

the later, upgraded turbos ('efini' is plain wrong, btw) are actually thought to be *less* reliable under higher, sustained boost than the original turbos. Certainly not worth the extra cash unless you can get a good deal on them. You would be mad to upgrade to them if there was nothing wrong with your originals.

because of the volume that they were produced in. Look at the USDM Production numbers, and then look at the numbers for the rest of the world, where, correct me if I'm wrong, all FD's were sold under the name "Efini".

Tip: Use proper grammer or else you're going to be ignored.

99 spec twins are an upgrade because they are more efficient. I don't think that they can withstand much more boost, but you're getting more volume per psi, which is what gives you more power.

you're wrong - efini was used as a brand only to 97. Therefore all upgraded turbos (those used in the '280ps' versions), which started in dec 98, are not 'efini' in any way.

these days, the upgraded turbos, for some reason, are actually slightly cheaper from mazda japan.
