Exclamation High Water Temps

I have a V-Mount setup and both before and after doing a full coolant system flush I am seeing water temps as high as 103C just going down the highway at normal speeds (70-105mph).

How High is too high ?

Everything in my engine bay looks good.. no leaks.. My Belt is solid... I'm even using water wetter. What else should I check?

I'm not sure what too high is, but that seems high for normal cruising. I have a FMIC setup and I'm typically at 90C during normal cruising. If I creep over 100C, it's usually either sitting in 98F degree heat in Chicago traffic or very hard driving.

It sounds like you have a custom v-mount setup, in which case, pics would probably be helpful. Did you replace your t-stat? Are your fans coming on correctly? The stock ecu doesn't even turn the fans on to LOW speed until 105C.

With a stock ECU you won't see lower temps unless you install a different thermoswitch like a 2nd gen or miata.

The fans are coming on at 86c. I'v had the v-mount setup for 3 years and usually never see above 93c even when I race. The only thing new this summer is a vented RE hood.

I have a full setup. PowerFC... Garrett 35/40. Everything important is Cool Chromed or Jet coated.

As for the T-stat.. I don't know.

I'll try to get some pics of the vmount setup.

are you running a 50/50 mix of coolant to water? try a 70/30 mix, with more water than coolant.

Same here. I usually see temps in the mid to low 90s C. 100C has only occured during a few of the hotter days here, but the fans are usually on by this point (PFC), cooling things down.

I've been above 103C before when my alternator belt broke, and the engine was fine...however, I believe once you get past 110C+, it becomes more of a real problem. Regardless, I agree with the above, in that 103 is a bit much for cruising temps. What are your ambient air temps?

Nope.. No underbody tray. Wouldn't fit after they did the single turbo conversion for me.

Well if you have the undertray removed, is there anything forcing the air to go thru both the rad and intercooler?

If you're simply relying on the dynamic pressure (momentum of the air hitting the car) to force air thru the radiator, it won't work. There needs to be ducting all around to 'catch' the air and give the air no choice but to go thru the core.

Anybody have any pictures or links to threads w/pictures of how people have air being directed to their radiators. I have an FMIC and a Koyo Radiator w/vented hood and my car consistently runs hot, but isn't overheating. I'd like to see how I could remedy this situation. Thanks.

That is the majority of your problem. Modify your stock one to fit, or fab one from aluminum. An undertray is essential to cooling, esp at highway speeds.
