Hi, and just bought a series 7 FD
Hi All,
I'm new to this site but I've been lurking for a while. I thought now would be a good time for an introduction
I'm from New Zealand, and have been looking to buy an FD for a long time (4 years or more) - finally after breaking up with my girlfriend I got the push I needed to take the plunge and actually buy one.
So I have a really nice white series 7 arriving in the country around the end of the month fresh off the boat from Japan. It has a C-West front and rear bumper, and side skirts. It also has a set of GMAX 18" rims, and 265 wide tyres on the rear, which hopefully will aid with traction
A momo steering wheel, apexi boost guage, and momo shift ****. It appears that the engine and intake / exhaust are stock, which I guess is a good thing.
I also own a series 4, which has been stripped back to the bare metal. My flatmate and myself are currently restoring it in a pearl blue (long beach pearl blue) from Spies Hecker. It should look quite nice as we have deleted the side strips all around, and modified the front bumper considerably, to only have the main lights and a park light / indicator in a single clear housing. Clear side indicators as well, and series 5 tail lights too of course
We also just bought a series 4 13bt engine two days ago which is in 300 pieces on my garage floor at the moment. With the rebuild we are aiming for 300hp at the wheels, with an aftermarket computer, turbo and everything else necessary to run it well.
My daily driver is a Toyota Caldina GT-T (not sure if you get those in the USA?) it's a 4wd 2.0l turbo 4 cyl sports wagon, who's engine committed auto-euthanasia 1 month after I bought it a year ago. Currently it's fairly stock with a 2 3/4" exhaust from the DP back (no cat- not required in NZ) and a blitz air filter and turbosmart blow off valve. Interior has a pioneer head unit, with 2 infinity 10" subs being powered by a 1000w sony amp. It also has a blitz turbo timer, and apexi boost guage.
As well as this, I recently completed rebuilding a 3000GT turbo engine with forged internals and a slight overbore with a friend of mine, which recently ran a 13.2s 1/4 mile with stock boost and a front mount intercooler. Not too bad for a heavy tub of lard of a car
That was a good sense of achievement. We also installed one hell of an alpine audio system in that car. Currently it's off the road being repainted in another type of pearl blue.
Anyway... I realise this doesn't have a huge amount to do with FD's, but I thought it polite to tell a little about myself, as I'm sure I will be a lot more active in this forum as soon as my baby arrives..
Thanks for listening, and keep up the good work... this site is an absolute wealth of information.... Good job everyone..... there will be no need to inform me about the search function I promise
Cheers

A fellow NZ'er ...
there had to be some on here
No worries about the search... I've seen far too many people flamed hard out!
My car may end up entered into the Auto Salon in AK on the 11th of June before I take her off the dealer, as he's setting up a stand and thought the car would look clean on it

he he.... then it appears I like a boxy RX-7 ..... From what I can see from a lot of cars on NZ roads, compared to US cars, our tastes are a lot different

Yeah thats true,
I find the US dudes like "clean" lines and subtlety, where-as the Sth Pacific dudes like performance and flair and in a lot of cases ( unfortunatly ) RICE!
Its clearly evident I have spent a lot of time on here as I like my car to have good clean lines and good performance with a practical setup, unlike my mates with FD's which have big-*** kits, big -*** wings, big - *** everything! and chrome

Nice ride! As for the body kit like/dislike....to each his own. Hell, there are still those of us Yanks that disagree on whether the FD should even have a rear spoiler or not.....lol!
So do you have any kick-*** roads to drive on? Pardon my ignorance but never having been to NZ I only have a basic idea of what it is like.
Anyways, good luck with your car. I hope you and your fellow NZers can get hooked up sometime, and if you do send the Forum some pics!

Yeah I'm planning on doing power mods when I get the car.... going to start with a Microtech MTX-8 computer and work from there.
The roads in NZ aren't really designed for high speed, unless death is you kinda thing
But I'll definately take it to the strip and see what happens.
Will post pics if we all get together..... I'm pretty keen, it should be good
