hey, new user here

i'm looking into purchasing an FD, been looking for a little bit
its either the FD3S or a SW20 turbo...

well i know what the rotary engine can cause and such, but i was wondering about how much is regular maintanence, i read somewhre baout engine rebuilds every once in awhile, that kinda thing
i hear its pre-requsite to have "extra" money when owning an FD, i dont think that will be a problem, i'm very interested and ready to buy
any other specific problems i should look also?
one last thing, is the R1 model significantly better than the standard model and worth looking for? or can i retrofit everything onto a base model...

thanks in advance

Is that always the question when someone wants to buy a FD?

On the topic: R1's are better models and would be worth hunting. Either/Or, all FD's are the ****.

It should be.
Yeah, everyone in their teens with minimal driving experience should be allowed to drive a car, with only several bolt on mods, that is capable of reaching 180mph without redlining 5th gear

Whats a SW20 turbo??

People always go on and on about the Rotary motor
needing rebuilds and etc. The Fact of the matter is.
Any CAR that is Abused/dogged/ragged out and tuned
poorly will BLOW.. NOT just Rotary's and RX7's.
When RX7's TT first came out. Before people knew
anything.. People went out and bought boost controllers
and turned the boost up to like 20psi withno other
MODS, then raced light to light basically ******* the car.
And What usually happens is.. a BLOWN Motor.
I got almost 130K miles on my FD3S, original motor and
turbos and still running Strong. I didn't abuse my car
and took my time modifying and took things slowly..
in a way. I am looking forward to the time when my
motor does pop, so I can street port it and upgrade
my turbos.

So my advise to you is. Find a good car to begin with
and treat her good, and she'll do likewise with you.
What ever a SW20 turbo is.. I am Very sure its doesn't
look as SWEET as a FD3S..

GOod luck

Oh yea BTW..

I about required (regular) maintenence question:

I remember long long time ago, when I was researching
to buy a RX7, and reading in either Motortrend or Car N
Driver.. When they did longterm test on the RX7..
The RX7 actually had one of the LOWEST maintence
cost of any cars they ever tested.. I forget the exact
#'s.. but cost per mile was like 4 cent or something.
Basically only maintence these car requires(if not
performance related) are oil changes..

hope this helps

thats what i thought, i agree that the rotary engine is a very strong machine but its just the ignorance of people who did'nt know how to upgrade it correctly which made is unreliable... well lets just hope the one i purchase wasn't beat up by the orginal owner, my plan is to do all the pretative maintenance first, and after that i will save up until enough for a complete rebuild, after that i might start pushin my car hard, cause after that i'll have more peace of mind that the car is heatlhy and hasn't been abused
turns out i live within 5 minutes of PFS, so i guess i'm lucky

i know i am a teenager, but i believe i have enough driving experience to handle the FD
i'm not going to push it to its limits because the fd's limits are far passed my arbitary limits
its not just the car, its the car and driver, both have different limits you have to abide by, so as far as driving it goes i think i will be ok, thanks for your concern.

I think someone needs a hug...

on/topic: The skies the limit. Enjoy what you have or will have. Get what you want and have the care and responsibility to enjoy it properly.

off/topic: Screw what I just said, you are 19 and still think you are a teenager . Let's hope this won't continue well into your 40's, otherwise *boom* *click, click, click*.

on/topic: where was I, oh yeah, you can do it...just but your mind into it and keep the mentality that you have been showing us in your posts. Good luck!

If I was you I wouldn't use Peter Farrell.
Even if he is 5 minutes away from you..

Go to the NE FORUM and read the
PFS vs Monsen Thread and you'll know
why...

While you are there Talk to " dontbearikkie"
and "fd3boost" they work on Fd3s's and
do good job.. They can do everything PFS
can do and are out to help you not just
dig into your pockets..

goodluck

sounds great, talked to my friend today (the car dealer)
and yea we have one i'm lookin at, and if its in decent condition i'm picking it up, this coming week.. i'm so excited i can barely stop thinking of it, so i go play gt3 all the time,

yea, i'll go take a look at the NE forums and meet up with local members around my area to get a feel for how the community is...
also is 180mph actually possible in the FD with boltons? i would imagine the transmission isn't even geared high/tall enough to reach that speed at 5th gear..

Yes, Don't kill yourself the first weekend. I mean the cars are getting hard to find, but not PARTS.

Later, Jeff

SW20 turbo is a Toyota MR2 '92ish, and no they dont... but they do get very pissed off with just a very small amout of mods. I dislike Mid engines though.

that turbo MR2 is a BEAST to work on. Makes the FD look like childs play...It's a tossup between the 300zx and the MR2 as to which one is harder to work on...

hey! the sw20 is a fine car to work on
the sw20 is the chassis code for the 91-99 mr-2
sw21 = na
sw22 = turbo
but mostly everyone just says sw20

the later 3s-gte (the engine they use) in the mr-2 from japan ran a solid 245hp and 225 torque giving them mid 13 second times stock, i know guys with a few mods that bring them to the 12's
i was planning to drop the jspec engine in there, but eh all of that stuff got old after i started lookin at the FD
the sw20 is a beautiful car, after you get the 95+ cosmetic changes, but still doesn't get close to the fine lines of an FD

i dont think i even wanna throw a body kit on the fd
