Does a silencer on a N1 exhaust really help with noise?

Does a silencer on a N1 exhaust really help with noise?
I have an Apexi N1 single exhaust and wondered whether the silencer really works as far as quieting it down. I know it cuts back on performance a little but these are for these late trips home so I don't wake up the neighbors

yes it helps but it reduces it to a 2" opening. you're exhaust didnt come with one?

The silencer is sold separately. I had a dual, and it helped out quite a bit. Dunno if it applies to a single.
