Hertz/Burnout FD Project

Long story short, I work construction and trade cars/car audio on the side. I have owned five cars myself, lost the first two to car theft. Got my FD last winter with 2400 dollars shipping damage. Decided to make it a project.

Ordered Burnout fenders and front bumper with the insurance money (that I haven't received yet) and repainting the entire car this winter, planning two-tone (black and dark red with orange mt?). Planning on keeping the side skirts and rear bumper I have, with some molding, need to play with it some more...

Two Hertz Hp-1D's, a Hertz Ep4, Hi energy speakers and 2 brand new 1200w 12" or one 10" Alpine type X, Alpine 505, and maybe a 12 farad stinger cap. If your wondering why overkill in some places... I'm under 2 grand for all that. Might throw in one or two 7" screens, looking for 2 sparco fighters/something comparable.

Running stock twins right now.. not touching them just yet, need an fmic for sure (hoping to go v-mount), have AEM fuel and boost but not installed, not sure if I'm gonna run it or go haltech. Staying with this until I have either a better job, sponsor, or rich father in law.

I don't really know anyone on the forums yet, or how open they are, but I was hoping to find some interest in the project, help me get the motivation to put the hours in after work. Maybe some good opinions on the project as it goes.

Let me know what you think
Jer

I understand you have great access to stereo parts cheap but why oh why do you want to weigh down such a cleverly designed lightweight sports car with all that equiptment? I don't get it.

It's like always driving with a passenger...LOL

Great project though.... Burnout kit is likely the ONLY kit that would ever touch my FD.... good taste

Some people have more money than intelligence?

On the bright side, it looks to be one of many abundant RHD versions and not a clean US version FD.

But, then again.....wtf do I know. I like VIP Cars.

quick question. even if you run the amps at full power, you arent even looking at 3000w of power. there is 0 reason to use anything bigger than a 1 farad cap, if at all.
where is your battery located? and what awg wiring are you using?

Check your numbers on the Hp1d's, hp link, and remember the ep4 as well. but yes, 12 is completely overkill. If you wanna know where the battery is and will be until the v-mount is installed, check the pic. I'm not sure where I'm running the battery after yet, because I have not decided on the final layout of the hatch.

I am building this car because I am out 20 grand in the last 3 years, including the damage on this one, and I need to raise the value of the vehicle as much as I possibly can. Hasn't done bad for advertising so far either... I have spent 2 grand into the car with everything listed above, and I get slammed for adding 105 pounds. I am building it up for next year's World of Wheels show in Winnipeg, and I have access to parts and time, not much else. Instead of asking why oh why, maybe ask if I thought of it, and if I plan on doing anything about it, lets be civil here.

I'm going for experience, style, and resale value. There is an Rx-7 waiting in Japan running a TO4E, HKS F-con V pro/evc boost, fmic, ported and nearly all supporting mods once this one is sold. I'm no basehead, I like clear, balanced sound, one Alpine with an mrp-450 would be decent enough for me in this car. If I want loud music, I could just take the Mazda 3.

Thanks XL, I agree to an extent lol, if I could I would go with RE-A, but it was either burnout or stock 99spec for me.

If my buddy doesn't end up needing my old fenders, you can take em.

Thanks,
Jer

Looking for two sets of 5x114's... 5zr's would be nice, will consider anything though, hoping for dish/offset as both would be for widebody cars.. also looking for seats and intercoolers, let me know if you got anything.

So let me get this straight.... You want to ADD value to the vehicle by spending money on stereo equipment and a body kit? I mean my car is pretty heavily modified; but I know damn well I won't get out of the car what I put into it. If you're building this car to sell then return it to as close to stock as possible. Throwing aftermarket parts at a car does not add value to it.

Maybe things work different in Canada, but you'll never get out of that car what you're putting into it. Doesn't an exhaust add clear balanced sound to the car? I can't tell by the pics but how many subs do you plan on adding?

Scrub... an hp1d retails for 1800 bucks a piece out here. i have spent just over that for the entire system listed above. I have traded vehicles over North America, imported my first from Oklahoma for 2800 bucks. Had an offer for 8,600 two days after I got over the border. Kicker project car, a 94 ACCORD, built in 97.

This is the age of "need for speed underground" if you know what I mean, and that's where I made most of my money. Look at the big v-tec next door. sound, body, and a cold air intake. Most cost effective way to raise the value of a car, and can be done very successfully. custom fiberglass, sound, paint, and "bodykits", sell. I have numbers, not fool notions. I'm not saying that civic doesn't make me throw up in my mouth...

I didn't really come here to defend, explain, and tell my life story (but I will if you really, really want me to lol). I'm building the best (two) cars that I can, using everything I can, you can give me the benefit of the doubt and chip in or sit back and watch.

Probably 2 12" hertz 300D, [or] one alpine type x 10" [or] a combo of hertz spl and two 8"... I'm still trying a few different setups. And as much as I like the 3" exhaust I'm running right now, It's just not loud enough... lol

what are you twelve?

you logic makes some sense but it doesnt work that way with fd's im sorry. like was already stated, if you would like to get top dollar for the car then change it back to stock and get it detailed. simple as that

I know the intentions are good and honestly I hope the car comes out exactly the way you want it to be and is unique.

However, I will echo the sentiments of my fellow FD owners when I say a dollar spend modifying an FD is a dollar lost.

Guys in Canada RHD FD's are a dime a dozen so even if this guy wants to do a Hello Kitty themed job on the car it really shouldn't be a big issue but at the same time even if he made what we would call a nice "clean" FD it still wouldn't sell for more just because of what JDM's have done to the market.

As for mods Mr. Jerr you are free to do what your heart desires and you will be pleasantly surprised to know that every modification under the sun has been done by FD owners on this forum so you can really know what you are going to expect from them.

P.S A t04e is a really small turbo on a rotary.

i was being civil. i do a ton of sound systems, including full on fiberglass builds and ive assisted in DB drag vans.
i was merely asking, i just see alot of people running caps for 0 reason other than thats what they have been told thats what they need.
anyways, theres only 1 problem about trying to "bring up the resale price", and its something i live by and swear by
"a modded car is only worth as much as the next person is willing to spend" and you also have to find someone who would mod the car in the same manner as you.
its an FD, so it makes a great platform to start on, but i dont see show cars really selling anymore.

As I said before, I didn't want to go through explaining myself, and the whole situation, so give me the benefit of the doubt or sit back and watch... I'm building both this and a dsm for two different buyers. The money is already there. I thought I mentioned that I have done this before, sorry for any confusion...

Magus, we are on the same page. I recognize the value of anything as being whatever people are willing to pay, and nothing else. I'm either running the cap or another battery, depending on the system, alternator, etc. Reading up on that a little more before I do anything else. I'm sure I'll be asking you for advice yet. I'm concentrating more on the body at the moment because I haven't had time to pick up the rest of the components yet. I hope to get some pics up next week...

4CN, one of us jumped the gun here.

Dradon, I have been reading up on the forums for a while before joining, just never really had anything to contribute until now. I have huge respect for many of the people on this forum, and I'm here to learn more than anything else, and maybe earn some respect for myself. And the price on the other fd is great, even for a rhd.

Thanks,
Jer

MB Here come the pics

I figured I was better off lurking for a while, but I thought I would post up some progress on what has actually been done on the car. Hopefully some of you can appreciate the work. Comments more than welcome, on the car. If you want to complain about the color, go repaint your car whatever color you like

I have no plans on selling the car, ever. The wife has accepted it. Most of the build has changed direction.

The paint is actually a Mazda color supplied by Sikkens, with a few minor mods.

Cut fender, push up, weld, fill, fender flare. Properly. You can actually hide your tires in the fender with the right setup. The inside of the front fender lip was also trimmed back a bit, to accommodate a future lowered fitment.

The front fenders can still be removed, the skirts are sealed in the front, molded in the back. Added a little extra fill between the quarter panel flares and skirts to keep it looking somewhat natural.

Took ridicules time on the joints between body panels. Lines and fitment are consistent. The reflections on the body in the third pic are pretty clear.

Shine provided the fenders, hood, re-a track style diffuser, and lip. All parts received in great order except for a crack in the corner of the hood's gel coat. 3 big coats of clear coat over the crack made it disappear.
.
Fabbed some seat brackets and dropped S. Torino 2's, and yes, they fit fine. If you slam your door a couple times.

Running Enkei Nt03+M, with 285's on all corners, full turn. No regrets on these whatsoever, but I would love to run a set of 19"s and/or drop the car another 1/2" in the future.

I'll keep most of the progress on the motor to myself, talk is cheap here. We like photos and dyno sheets.

For the few of us that can justify having a stereo, audio is powered by digital f6 and m12 amps from Alpine, in a rack that can be removed from the car in about 10 minutes. sub comes out, 6 bolts come out, done. They will stay out until I have decided how I want a fuel cell sitting in the hatch.

If for whatever reason you are interested in pics or have questions, let me know. This is my first Fd build, and I could learn a lot from some of you.

I imagine this could be moved into the build threads?

Thanks,
Jer

Came out great, and for all the people who were hating on your stereo, go look at 90% of show cars. They will have a decent sized sub set up. Anyways love the car!
