It was the differential case that broke, not the Kaaz differential.

mine did that too. it seems as though the ppf is trying to go up, and the diff is wanting to go down. eventually something has to give. i'd still like to know who thought up the ppf

Actually, the front of the differential is trying to go up (in the opposite direction of the rotation of the ring gear) and the PPF is designed to help resist that.

With good traction on slicks and a high rpm launch, the pinion gear tries to climb the ring gear upward because it can't turn the tires immediately and translate the power into motion. The result is a huge amount of stress on the nose of the differential, because the PPF keeps that from happening.

You are right that eventually something has to give. Do enough drag launches with enough power and you'll eventually find the weakest link in the drivetrain the hard way.

i'd still like to know who thought up the ppf
Mazda?

So, Did you finally get the diff? Did you install it? Does it fit, work, etc.?

Installed 2 weeks ago. Mazdaspeed LSD. I had to go back to 4.10 gears. Made by best pass thus far with the new setup. Went 11.14 @ 121.46.

Mine happended because the ring gear was not properly torqued to the diff. I am still dealing with my mechanic who installed it. I am looking for a full refund. It wasn't done by MZM, it was done by a local shop in San Antonio.
