I'll bet I could figure it out and it wouldn't mean reinventing the wheel. But I'm sure you are right, there may be some variances. The biggest would be the lengths of the individual connector wires to reach the connectors in the same way a series 6 harness would reach. Again, it depends what the OPs options are. Sticking with the black box, probably is the better avenue. They both have their shortcomings.
