Help on where to install PFC Commander holder..
This is for the guys that have one of these on a 94-95 model. I went to install mine yesterday (I have a 94) but was unable to locate a solid mounting position.
Did you guys have to take off your paneling to add washers and bolts for a strong hold? I've noticed that my holder doesn't extent back far enough to hit the solid plastics under the glove box.
So yeah, where did you guys mount yours?
I searched before posting this but have not seen anything other than the mention that mounting points need to be adjusted for 94-95 model FD's, but none that say WHERE the adjusted position is..
Thanks,
Levi

From what I can make of it you shouldn't have any problems installing this on a '93. The holder comes with everything you will need (except the phillips head) to put it in.
There are some pictures further down on this thread ( https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/type-screws-use-install-gotham-racing-commander-holder-506403/ ) to give you an idea of how it will fit.

I have a 94 but I just used the apexi avcr holder to mount it to my dash with strong double sided tape. I also used velcro on the back so I could take it out the commander as I desire.

Those were my pics in the other thread you linked to and I'm thinking about adding a fourth mounting fastener. Though it seems to be holding well with self-taping screws, I've thought about going through one or both of the DIN spaces to use small screws/nuts/washers. I don't think removing the dash panel would be necessary.

Right, for the 93 you mount it inside the glove compartment essentially. The part you mount to there is a solid piece of plastic which is able to support the holder as a mounting point.
Due to a slightly different structure in the 94-95 models you are unable to mount the holder to the same plastic block (unless you cut a huge slit/hole in the glove compartment door). The actual material that makes up the central divider (and the logical secondary mounting point) is not solid enough to support the weight of the holder, much less the combined weight of the holder and the commander. It is closer to a pleather material than plastic.
That is my dilemma. I want to know if I will NEED to cut the glove compartment door and mount the holder inside as is done on the 93, or if there is an alternative spot which isn't permanently damaging.

The standard Commander mounting position is very awkward IMHO. The cigarette lighter mounting position is much less obtrusive:

Now I'm interested in doing that myself. How did you go about attaching the holder to the lighter socket?
I have mine in the same spot. I went to home depot bought some plexiglass and a plastic bolt that fit in the socket, and some velcro.
Cut the plexiglass to size
epoxied the bolt to the plexiglass
put velcro on pfc and on plexiglass.

moconnor,
I put mine in the same place.. well, a little higher, as to where it would block the '180' on the speedo. Not a big deal considering going that fast isnt a daily occurance
I just used some velcro on the dash and commander and it works great. Ran the wires from the passenger side, under the shifter console and have the wire coming out near the shifter on the driver's side. One reccomendation for the velcro would be to put the 'fuzzy' side on the commander , so when you move the commander under the seat or something similar, the commander will not 'stick' to the carpet

I don't have any pictures of this process, but you can see a side view here:
