yeah its a pull type clutch so therefore its locked into the pressure plate from behind (flywheel side) u can try to wedge it out with a screw driver or if u unbolt one of the service hole plates on the bellhousing u can unscrew the pressure plate/clutch assembly off the flywheel just turn it over to get to the next screw, look in the service manual under transmittion.

The bearing may not be his problem. My transmission wouldn't come off and it turned out to be the pilot bearing failed and was fused to the propeller shaft of the transmission. It literally took me about 6 hours to get the transmission off. I wasn't about to force anything unless I had to. The bearing was shot and the propeller shaft had a big divit and spike on it (which I sanded off).

Next time I pull my transmission off im doing a push conversion.. I really dont like the pull type system I know my fd pretty well but that trany gave me a hard time when I pulled it off last year, I couldnt figure out how to release the box, and I still dont know if I bolted it back on properly after I pulled it off, but it seems to be working fine since then.!!

A search on this forum can lead a person to the FD manuals which if read, has many helpful hints.

Releasing the clutch from the throwout bearing is a piece of cake. Everyone always complains about it because theyre used to push type clutches. The FSM shows you how to remove it. Since you have the engine out of the car, it will be much easier.

Go through the service port on the bottom of the bell housing, using a screwdriver with a large flat blade, or an 18 in pry bar, put the tip between the pressure plate and throw out bearing and twist. …..Pop the throw out bearing backs off the retainer ring...

Simple as pie

While this is always a possibility since it moved as far as it did I went with the throw out bearing because typically when its the pilot bearing you cant get it to move that far.

It also really helps if you unbolt the slave cylindar first (gotta do it anyways...)
