Help with TB, idle adjustment?

Guys I need some help with my TB, I had it polished a while ago and it is out of adjustment I think. I had the car running totally well before I took the UIM cover and TB off to have polished. Now I got everything back in and I am experiencing a very low choppy idle that barely wants to hold. Its chuging at around high 500 to 700 max rpms. It shakes and will not idle right. I had installed my new PFC not aware that there is a problem and when I put the stock ECU back, it was the same deal. Now I read some stuff on it and I also have the FSM out. I am a little confused as to what I can adjust on the TB to get it to run right. I have started a thread in the PFC section
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?p=5701382#post5701382
and came to this, I need a wider audience to help me troubleshoot this. I am running out of time, I have today and tommorrow to get an emissions test or else. How can I change the idle to run correctly, I am assuming that something got loosened up during the polishing or shipping process. Who has had this happen and who knows how to fix it?

dont know exactly, but i had a problem where my idle was sticking at 2-3k rpm's. I loosened the throttle cable and it went away. Maybe you could try to tighten the cable to pull the rpms up. Dont know if thats the problem but thats what I would try first. hope it works out 4 you.

There is an idle adjustment screw on the drivers side of the throttle body, in the center. It is under the inatke elbow, so you cannot see it without a mirror. Get a mirror, and adjust it with a standard screwdriver.

I went out and reset the stock ECU and started it up, it idled like normal up until about when the AWS stops and instead of dropping, it started surging, not real bad, but its definately doing it. I have no clue at this one. I also grabbed two pics (quality sucks) of the TB, can we see the screw in any of the pics? I can't seem to locate which one is what?

UNDER the center of the TB where it meets the elbow. Kinda hard to take a pic of it unless the TB is off. It's one of those things you have to feel for.

Thats what I thought, but after looking I could not feel it or see it, so I figured I was in the wrong spot. What do you guys think could be causing the surging after about 2 mins? Its weird cause the boost gauge is surging with it. Leak somewhere? I think this is a test to see how much I can learn about this car before its fixed. I thought the seq. control system was going to be my last hurdle. Damn. Also when I had the PFC hooked up before, at idle my injector duty was like 7.6%, does that sound right or does it need to be adjusted?

As for the surging, the only thing that comes to mind is the map sensor. Dunno about the duty cycle.

I would love to know your thoughts on any of those reasons. What would be going on with the map sensor that would cause that? Faulty, I know its connected. Its weird that its happening on the stock ECU, the only difference since it was running great is, UIM and TB polished and new Med SMIC, thats it. What about the Idle air sensor or whatever. Could that be the culprit? I don't have a multimeter, so I can't really test per the FSM. I am so stumped, unless the damn idle settings are the reason. I have a huge show dedicated to the porsche guys and other exotics to go to on Sunday next week, I really don't want to have to miss it.

My only experience with the surging is when my map sensor became unplugged. So... I suppose it might be a defective map sensor. I'm graspin' at straws, lol.
Have you tried searching under "surging"?
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...hlight=surging

Any idea on my "issue" https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/no-more-carbon-coming-exhaust-544348/

Na I didn't honestly search the surging thing, thanx for saying that. I however cannot find that damn idle screw? I looked and felt, it must be down deep under the elbow? I am about to take the whole damn thing off and look. Thats a weird issue your having, I think from your description that could be it. I have no ideas, I will take any logical grab at straws. I am running out of time is my only thing. I have been in the dungeon working CF for 6 straight months, I need to get out and have some fun, plus what better way to represent the FD, with a strong showing at a mostly porsche event!! I am going to go try again here in a little bit. Does anyone know what head the idle screw is? and is it closer to where the UIM and TB go together, or where the elbow meets the TB? Why is this damn thing so hard to reach and see?

Edit: does anyone have a pic of the idle screw, I am so visual that if I see where it is, I can feel for it. Right now I feel retarded because it seems so hard to pinpoint. Also what direction is what. Clockwise will lower or raise the idle? or vise versa?

I think it's a flathead screw. Check the FSM, you need to bridge a couple of points in the diagnostics box and then adjust the idle. Stick your hand under the elbow and feel for a hole in the center of the TB under the elbow. The screw will be inside the hole.

Come on dude, I think a mirror in this case is not absolutely needed. If you just take some time and feel your way around, you'll find it. Just visualize your target(take another toke), you'll find your goal!

Adam C, I totally took a mirror out there and looked, I guess the mirror is too fat, but if I spent less time worrying about my car instead of my mirrors I would be on top of this. I am determined to keep looking. Even if I have to get out the spy kit. Man I appreciate the help though bro. Like I said, I feel retarded that I can't figure this out. I pride myself on fixing things, so I am extremely frustrated. I just need to get that bitch to pass the sniffer. After that it doesn't even matter. My state got smart and is doing away with emissions testing after the first of the year. I am going to buy a mirror and a flex flashlight. Do some deep rotary engine diving. Man sorry if I am pissing people off with this, I am just panicking I guess. I am off to try again. Wish me luck. Seriously though thanx to anyone willing to help. Sometimes we get so worked up over this car, we forget whats important. Happy holidays fellas.

Bam!!! Look out!! I fixed the damn thing I think. Man I am happy right now! I found the screw finally the clue was that it was in the hole. I thought you could reach down and feel the head of the screw. Not true, its in a hole about an inch deep. Its flat head and easy to adjust. I tightened it and then backed it out about a 3/4th turn the idle stabilized and I drove it around the parking lot. It felt and sounded good besides I might have turned it too much back out, the idle was a little high, but smooth. Thanx to each and everyone that had something to offer. Take care guys.

BTW, the idle bleed screw. The intake elbow has been removed.

you can also loosen the 8mm lock washer and turn that idle screw as well on the left side of the tb.
