Help with tachometer install - 99 JSPEC
I installed a 99 JSPEC tach into my 94FD...
The tach itself was completely plug-n-play out of a 99 cluster from Japan. It went it with the same three screws that held in the 94 tach. It worked great for the first 1K miles, then it started bouncing. It's intermittent so I looked for a possible ground problem.
Thinking it was a loose connection, I pulled the cluster, re-tightened everything and ensured all connections were solid. Tach still bounces ... but only sometimes.
I can't help but think since it operates fine most of the time, that I've missed something. Anyone ever run into this problem before?
Help would be appreciated.
Reese

I have this problem on my stock tach... it jumps up a couple thousand rpm for no reason, bounces, goes to normal.... etc. This seems to occur with other fd tachs as well because I know Im not the first one. I've heard of others having this problem. You pretty much have to ignore it, it sucks though when it jumps up and your at WOT, scares the **** out of you. I bet you its a problem with the ground of the rpm sensor or something.

That sounds almost exactly like the symptoms of a dying stock tach, which sucks for you.
BTW, that really doesn't look that much different than the stock one. It's just re-oriented, like rotated CCW a little. Why'd you bother doing it?

ANY real racer knows to have the Tach optimally positioned for you to be able to easily see redline when you are racing.

I got it from Dino (Batmobile) ... the backlight is green, but I like the offset color ... mainly because with the Eclipse and XM radios, I'm not all amber anymore...
