HELP! something else is broken...
a week or two ago i was having problems with a fluctuating idle, with an otherwise smooth ride. i checked almost everything and i couldnt figure it out. i didnt drive for a few days while i was waiting for some time to work on the car some more, and i tried to start it up last night, but it wouldnt start.
while i was cranking it up, the engine sounded like it was flooding, but im not sure if that was the problem. every time it sounded like it was about to fire up, but it wouldnt spark it seemed like. after about ten minutes of trying, i smelled a very strong fuel smell, and saw quite puddle of raw gasoline forming at the curb under my car.
from the symptoms i was having last week and the final problem i had last night, what do you guys think is broken? is it possible that it is the fuel pulsation dampener?? or something else?
please point me in the right direction guys. i need my car to wake up.
thanks in advance for all of your excellent help.

no, i already checked my voltage of my tps and it read .60 at closed throttle and ~4.25 at wide open throttle. pretty normal readings. that was actually he first thing i checked. thanks anyways for your input though. anyone else?
i already checked the map sensor too.
does anybody know if a really faulty pulsation dampener could be responsible for those symptoms? i think that is whats wrong, but i dont want to go buy the part for $150 and come up the same. is there anything else fuel related that could be causing it? gas was pouring from under my cars engine bay.

If that much fuel is leaking from the engine to form a puddle, then you shouldn't even be trying to start it up. You'r best bet is to remove the upper intake manifold and pressurize the fuel system to see where the leak is coming from.
FlyBye is correct, do not drive and take off the UIM!
It is probably either your Pulsation Dampner or your injectors are
leaking (in my case it was both).
How many miles does your car have? Your pulsation dampner is
probably ready to be replaced anyway...
Good luck!

Has anyone just decided to get rid of the stupid pulsation dampener at all? When I did the fuel system on my Supra I just ditched the POS and ran a straight line into the rail from the pump, out to an afpr from the rail and back to the tank. It is just designed to alleviated pulses from the fuel pump no?

i had the car towed into the shop this morning, after i came to the conclusion that i do not have the time after my classes during the week to work on something as unfamiliar to me as the fuel system.
the only reason i kept trying to start it was because i thought it might have just been flooded, but i did stop trying to crank it after i noticed the fuel smell, and then the leakage. thanks for the forewarning though.
now i am just wondering, while my car is in the shop, do you guys think that a busted pulsation dampener could have been responsible for causing my idle to fluctuate up and down for the last two weeks? or is there a better chance of it being something else?
i already pretty much checked everything here at least once or twice, just for reference:

Could you elaborate on your symptoms? I believe mine could be similar....I posted another thread on idle gremlins. My idle is high (~1200rpm) until I tap the gas and it drops back down. Also, I get a 'hunting' idle condition which seems to affect the engine at all RPM levels (when I hold the accelerator) while the idle fluctuation is occurring. How did you determine that the MAP sensor is bad? How was the dashpot seated improperly? I recently replaced mine because the original one was shot, but my symtpoms existed prior to dashpot replacement. I have tested the TPS full and narrow ranges, and the values are within limits per the shop manual, although they are at the high end of the specs. Thanks for any help you can provide!
