Street/Stance 1993 FD

So probably better late than never. I've been thinking about posting a build thread on here for a while so here it goes. It is much easier to snap a phone pic and post on Instagram or FB but considering that I have two small kids I refrain from it as to not let my wife see all the spending I do on my POS cars. All the boxes that show up at our from door most likely give it away though. I should also add that she is the coolest chick I know and because I try to keep her and our kids happy she probably wouldn't care. On to the car.

I traded a civic and AE86 for the FD about a year ago Feb 2012.

Pretty decent build but mainly something I wanted for nostalgia. The thought of building another civic was cooler than actually doing it. Even though the motor was completely built it just didn't do it for me. Coming from a 400hp RWD SR the 180hp FF car was slow.

This thing was pieced together from a shell that someone gave me. I want to say that everything but the actual motor came from ebay. Value wise I think the Civic alone should have been enough for the FD in the condition that it was in but I threw in the corolla to seal the deal. At the time I couldnt believe that someone would seriously be interested in trading me for an RX7.

Here is what it looked like when i got it.

Being realistic with my goals I decided to get the car visually appealing just so I could drive it. With two small kids I realized that my track days would be put on hold for now.

So here was my initial MOD list:

stance coilovers
Burnout replica aero
Work HS 203 wheels
recaro speed seats (from my 240)
new interior plastics
new paint (daytona blue)
HID headlights
KOYO radiator
samco hoses
smoked ebay LED tailights

This is what the car has looked like for about a year now.

Exactly what made sense at the time. A nice street cruiser that passed smog!! I couldn't believe it. The plan was to leave the stock twins alone and have a nice car that passed smog.

So one day i'm getting my 240 tuned...

and I see a classic rod plate on a car and I over hear that they never have to pass smog again. It was both a blessing and a curse because up until that moment I was completely happy with the way the FD was and it hadnt been a burden to my bank account.

So here is the begining of the end. The last day my FD had to ever pass smog.

Of course I feel joy every time I walk into my garage or new parts show up at the front door but I hardly have time with kids and work. Its like a disease or a drug. I know I shouldn't be doing it but the temptation is just to strong.

This is where the 240 has been for about the last two years sitting in the garage collecting dust. I should really wash her up and take her out.

And before that out getting track time at vegasdrift or car shows.

Since the previous owner took out the A/C and its too hot to drive the car here during the summer without it I figure I can take my time and enjoy the MOD's for a few months.

Judging by a lot of the comments here on the forum I would say that most of you aren't exactly into the wheel fitment/stance scene. It has gotten a bit ridiculous with many rides that I've seen on the net but who are we to judge what another person does with their cars. Regardless, I can appreciate them all.

whats up John. I do hope to be up and running by the end of summer.I also didnt pull the motor and have it rebuilt like you so im not burning funds like crazy. I must say that I am spending more than I wanted to and I havent even gotten a turbo and wastegate yet. For my first rotary I've learned a lot already and hope I dont get discouraged if/when my motor blows

Update

Got my Xcessive LIM back from the machine shop today. The porting is probably not necessary for my goals but why not.

I also got a chance to make a mount on my UIM for my FPR.

Just need to run my fuel lines. I still cant decide whether or not to ditch the stock hard lines and run my own. I also decided on a turbo GT3582.

your wheels appear to be sticking out past the fenders -- not sure if you're aware of that.

it would actually be easier to ditch those oem hard lines that sit on top of the block. But almost everyone is running the oem hardlines under the Car.

^ yea just remember that the hardlines are 5/16ths. XRP makes a 5/16(-5) to -6 adapter for tube flair nuts. this would be the proper way to do it. but you could always slip your -6 hose over the hard lines and clamp it down.

why not indeed.

after running my X Man for a few years a month or so ago i actually looked carefully at the manifold and was surprised at how much port work was needed to properly match up to my ports.

i probably spent an hour and a half on it. there was lots of aluminum lying aound when i finished.

weight reduction

I've switched to SS lines in the bay area already. I just thought since i'm doing an aftermarket filter I might as well just run an SS line from there forward. You might have convinced me to keep the oem hardlines under the car though. I feel its much cleaner that way as well.

Thanks. I ordered some the other day to connect my fuel tank to the fuel filter I plan on mounting under there. I just wasnt sure at the time if i wanted to run the OEM hard lines.

I used a 3/8 hose in the fuel tank to connect my fuel pump to a shortened hard line. I was/am still concerned if it will maintain a good pressure but I used two clamps so i'm assuming that it will be fine.

I used Bride rails. The seats actually dont fit but i modified the seat inner frame by the upper shoulder area. I bored out the mounting holes on the rails a bit as well, less than a mm so the seat sits in more to the center. Also, because its a recline able seat it has limited front to back movement due to the twist **** hitting the transmission tunnel. I'm asian so its actually perfect for my height.

So I got up early before my kids woke up this morning to wire up the additional injectors that i'm going to run in my 4port FFE fuel rail. I was just going to afro engineer it but decide to do it semi-properly and solder and heat shrink it.
