Help!! (newly acquired FD...various questions...)

sup everyone!! i'm new here, and i just bought a 3rd gen a month ago. i got a lot of question on how to maintain a turbo charged rotary engine. i had a 91 n/a before but i got rid of this and picked up my current ride.

when is a good time to rebuild?? i'm at 63k

when do i replace the turbos??

which intercooler setup is better?? V mount or front mount??

when i bought this car, it has the normal setup. intake, headers, muffler, BOV. i know i sound like a noob. i appreciate it if someone can help me out. thanks!

It would have been a lot better to learn the answers before actually paying for the car. Oh well.

Ideally you don't ever want to rebuild. It's not a preventive maintenance item. Either the apex seals or coolant seals go, and on a stock car the coolant seals tend to go first. Many original engines didn't make it past 63k. A few make it beyond 100k. Good luck.

when do i replace the turbos??
When they start blowing oil heavily into the intake or thru the exhaust. Boost problems are not usually related to the condition of the turbos themselves.

which intercooler setup is better?? V mount or front mount??
For drag, front mount. For track and street, v-mount. Front mount blocks the radiator, and good cooling is critical for FDs.

when i bought this car, it has the normal setup. intake, headers, muffler, BOV. i know i sound like a noob. i appreciate it if someone can help me out. thanks!
"Headers" is called a downpipe around here. Leave it all alone until you learn more about it. Get a boost gauge, do the recommended maintenance, and get to know the car. Mods come later, unless you want that rebuild coming at 64k.

There is a FAQ here. Please refer to it before posting a new thread.

Do some studying. Replacing your downpipe, cat, and muffler can blow your engine if you don't know what you're doing.

Wow, you guys are HARSH.

rotaryR2, welcome to the club. Congrats on the car, got any pics?

Most of your questions are pretty heavily debated. For instance, some people will tell you FMICs are better, some will say V-mount. Some will say never replace the twins, others will tell you nothing but a big single turbo will ever make enough power.

It would be helpful to read through the FAQ, as suggested by others, and learn what you can. Proceed with caution when modding the car, beware that the stock ECU is open loop, i.e. it has no idea if the boost level goes up, and so doesn't add more fuel. Good luck.
