help a newbie out

I just picked up a bone stock 94 rx-7. I love the car already and want to start modding it. I have a warranty on it, so don't want to go all out YET, in case something goes wrong. I know I need a boost gauge...but what other gauges do I need? Oil? Basically just want to know the necessities for keeping/making the car reliable. I did a search...but couldn't find anything. Any input or suggestions will be helpful.

Yes you will really need a boost gauge to monitor your boost and help diagnose any boost problems which may arise. Also a new water temp gauge is a MUST! The stock one doesn't show overheating until it's too late.

Thank you. Any other gauges a necessity? You recommend a specific brand or they all pretty much the same?

Autometer sport comp gauges look similar to stock gauges and are pretty good.

Before you start modding, be sure the car is up to date on all maintenance items. Fuel filter, spark plugs, accessory belts, air filter, **coolant** , and of course oil filter should all be changed, unless you know exactly when they were performed last. Also take care of the brake fluid, clutch fluid, transmission & differential fluids also.

That should keep you busy for a while. After that look into getting a downpipe, this will keep some heat out of the engine bay.
