Talking Help me spend my money!

Hey all!

I have been floating around for a while, saving up some money from the past summer to buy some new things for my car. To start off, I have a 1994 (late build 93). It is the famous Vintage Red, 5speed Touring model.

It is completly stock, and I have about $7,350 to spend. I have about 8,500 in the bank, but would like to keep a reserve.

So, I was looking for a FMIC, Radiator, full exhaust, and ecu.

For the FMIC I was thinking Greddy 2 row or Apexi's unit.
For the Radiator, I was thinking Koyo since it is cheap, something like 400.
For the exhaust, I was thinking about going with a Pettit downpipe and the HKS Titanium exhaust (midpipe and catback unit).

I need help deciding on the ECU. What should I do? PFC? AEM?

Also, can I get all this under my budget? Where should I shop for cheap prices?

Thanks,

Jon

fmic greddy porb better and cheaper..like 1050 from jason @ rx7 store..
koyo 395 i think is his price..i know of a few places for 375 but their in calli so u pay the extra in shiping...
ecu..well it depends on what u wana do/ where u live.
if u live west coast u have avable tuners for pfc...east coast is strugglin for the software (only xs has power excell software)
haltec is real incredible..but forget abt emissions..and u have to wire it up...no plug and play
aem looks good...but god only knows if its gonna come out, and then u have to find someone who knows how to tune it...

prob jason will get u best price on pfc...asside from people selling them on the forum here

for the exhaust, hks hiper ti..1200 either jason or tony @ http://www.rxecret7.com

also since you underbudget..feel free to sned me some $$ ill put in a good home

I'm running the same mods.
Pettit DP, HKS Ti, intake, and IC (14psi boost).

I just went with the Pettit ECU. You just plug it in. No bullshit tuning. If your going single turbo or putting in more injectors then go programable. I would say the M2 ECU but they don't recommend MP.

Later, Jeff

Greddy FMIC- $1050
radiator-$400
Power FC-$1200
HKS Hyper Ti-$1200
HKS DP-$200
Water temp, oil pressure, boost, O2 gauge (very important)- $500-$900
bigger secondary injectors-$500

With all of this you should be able to run 14-16psi and be probably in 11's if not mid 11's. PFC I think is the best ECU. It's all plug and play and I'm sure that all the base maps that comes with the PFC runs rich. With some tuning, I think you'll make much more power. All this only equals out to less than $5500 so you might be able to get a single turbo while you're at it

I would say to get the new AEM CPU comming out very soon. It should be better then the PowerFC which is the current best seller.
Also the largest core i have seen for a fmic is the Greddy Skyline core.
As for the exaust, i suggest you not get the bonez dp cuz its not that great cuz the part that hooks up to the turbos are not as low profile as a hks dp. also, if you want loud, get the HKS hiper full exaust which is a real 4 inch full exaust from the downpipe. other then that i would suggest the Apex-i GT cat-back exaust with a generic midpipe. this is still loud as hell but not as loud as a HKS hiper. i personnaly have a straight pipe exaust with a hks downpipe with a generic mid-pipe and a greddy/trust catback exaust which has a straight thru design and it is not that loud. i always hear civics with louder exaust systems.
as for the radiator, do you have a leak or something. if not, just run very little radiatorfluid to water ratio and do the fan mod which makes your fans run faster and you should be fine. get a watertemp gauge and if you run under 200, your fine!

good luck

P.S. If you don't replace your thermostat, you'll still problally run pretty hot. I know from a guy who did this, if you replace your radiator, thermostat, do the fan mod and get a vented hood and bodykit as well as take out the A/C condensor and dont get a fmic, the temp will never get above 185 degrees and he said that thats running on full boost for a long time. This is problally over kill cuz im pretty sure a rotary engine must warm up to a certin time which is around 200 degrees to function at its peak performance.

I agree w/ the above not including the HKS TI. I would suggest going Apex'i N1 w/ a MP and DP. My setup cost me 1200 total and I have been happy ever since. With the extra money I would suggest either upgrading your Fuel and ignition systems, body kit, or some nice rims and tires. To add to the previous list I would pick up the rear toe links and trailing arms from m2 performance. You can find these here under the suspension extension. Good luck in making power it comes easy w/ the $.
Happy Rotoring,
Ryker

It sounds like you are on the right track. But be prepared for a LOUD! LOUD! LOUD! exhaust note with the exhaust setup you seek. Not good for a street car, IMHO. You'll get sick of the noise if you have to drive the car a lot. Or maybe I'm just getting old. DP, muffled midpipe, and Racing Beat dual tip exhaust are a good combination if you want to save your hearing.

You'll probably want an intake system, too. Get a cool air system like the one from M2 if it will fit with the intercooler you select (not likely with a FMIC). Otherwise, you might want the A'PEXi FMIC since it is available with their intake system (cheaper than buying it all separately).

If you afford to buy, ARC FMIC is much better.
It is lighter and has better performance than any other constructor's.

Save up some more b4 committing and go single. Greddy T78 kit, fmic, injectors, port, haltech or power fc, exhaust, pulleys, fuel pump, dyno time (tuning).

you can pass emissions with the haltech, they did it in turbo, you just need a high flow cat, and a "remote" air pump, not the stock one...the single turbo rx-7 in turbo had the haltech wired to the stock ecu to maintain emissions controls..it still had over 400hp, and it passed emissions w/ 16HC(the state limit is 220) amazing! and had 0.00 CO(the limit is 1.20) at low speed. at high speed it had 33 HC and still 0.00 CO
