One of the reasons that you had to do the hose job is because of the heat in the engine compartment. The pre-cat is a major cause of heat. I'll bet you paid more for the hose job than the cost of the downpipe. You don't want to have to do the hose job again!!

I'm 45 years old (probably your dad's age). Not some kid (like you). Removing heat from the engine compartment was a primary concern to me when I bought the car. I want to keep this car for a long time. I'm taking care of it.

adam c, that is the best way of putting it! My dad is currently 48. We got the hose job done for $250. I'm gonna tell him that if we dont get this dp issue solved soon, we're gonna be shellin out $250 twice a year for vaccum lines instead of $400 for a installed dp. I have aspirations of keeping this car for 4 years. I wanna keep her in good condition.

Peace,
Zach

IMO the hose job wasnt a good idea because of the fact that there probably wasnt a known hose problem. Its sometimes considered unreliable to "fix" something that isnt broken.

Tell your dad to let you do as you please with your car, its your money and your situation, you can handle it.

If he doesnt buy that, show him this site:

http://www.rx7.org/Robinette/reliabiltiy.htm

Replacing the precat with a downpipe is #1 on this list, which is a highly respected and extremely informative site:

"Replace Pre-Catalytic Converter (pre-cat) With Down Pipe - The pre-catalytic converter is attached to the turbos. It tends to clog up and hold excess heat in the turbos and engine compartment. It can also break up and clog/destroy the main catalytic converter leading to failed emission tests and costly repairs."

Good luck.

The factory fuel map is plenty rich for a car with all the bolt on's as long as the boost stays at 10PSI!

Wade has done WB testing to prove this...

A downpipe will not make your car louder. It will provide a few extra HP, but no huge increases. These may be a concerns for your father.
