It is glued; pop it loose with a screwdriver.

I've also got a how-to on this topic:

either will work however 6x8 would require custom mounting, the stock speakers are 5x7 so 5x7's would drop right in.

6x8 drops right in without any modification whatsoever.

I was also under the impression that the rear speakers were 6x8, especially since it says so in the workshop manual. Also, if you go to Pioneer's website, they sell 6x8 speakers described as Ford/Mazda replacements.

That's what I have - TS -A5705's. Fit perfect. You'll have to mount 1/2" weatherstripping to them where the stock ones had it or you will get no base response.

6x8s drop in perfectly fine, the stockers are 6x8s.
5x7s work fine too because often the plate they are mounted on is the same size as the plate for 6x8.
You will need to pry the old speaker plate from the bracket by working around gradually as you don;t want to tweak the plate so that the install of the new speaker will sit flush. Be sure to apply 1/2" or thicker weatherstrip as mentioned before for better bass response.

I want the JVC SH99 in black face dammit! NOT aluminum.. grrrrrr
not sending off to Germany for it either...
