1st pic: Not 100% sure, but I believe that is the infamous blue plug that doesnt connect to anything.

2nd pic: that pipe is part of the split air tube, which is part of the FD's air pump system. There is a hose that runs from that pipe forward to your air intake.

The water temp sensor is on the back of the water pump housing.

It would help if you circled what you were pointing at in the first pic, but to me it looks like you're pointing to the EGR sensor plug.

Here, in this pic you can see the long hose that routes from that pipe (in your second pic) to the intake:

In the first pic, you have the electrical connector for the air pump plugged into the not-used blue connector. Unplug that pronto. That could cause ECU damage. The hint should be the connectors aren't the same color.

The grey plug is for the air pump, which you don't have, and the blue plug is for the EGR switch on California cars. Stock, your car had that blue plug there not connected to anything, which is just fine, all newbs are stumped by it . The air pump has been removed.

The second pic is the air return pipe for the air pump system. If you're not running an air pump, it pretty much does nothing.

It's not mine, it's some random pic I pulled off the net.

Here is my engine bay, it was clean enough to win 'Best In Show-FD' at this year's Rotorfest
