help with driver door won't open

this morning, after coming out from the supermarket, my driver door wouldn't open. i had to go through the passenger side to get home. after searching old threads, people say to play with the rods. i've been playing with the rods, but it doesn't seem to help. when i push and pull the rod circled in green, i see the button on the inside lock and unlock.

when i pull on the inside handle and also on the exterior door handle, i can hear it like unlatching, but the door won't open. i can see the rods moving. at this point, i'm kind of stuck, any idea on what i should be doing, or am i doing it right and something is broken on the inside?

also when unlocking/locking the inside will no longer control the passenger side, and the passenger side window has no response to rolling up or down.

Your window probably not working now cause the connector probably is loose. Make sure the car is unlocked and then push down on the shorter thicker rod. That should unlatch and just give a good tug.

ratajar - the white stuff is the lithium grease out of the spray can that i put on earlier this summer. i'm pretty careful with the handles. at least goodfellafd3s still has some handles left.

oppa637 - i'll try again in the morning.

needless! - when i got the car, it couldn't unlock from the outside with the key. after taking the lock cylinder apart, the broken end of a key was stuck in it.

When you unlock the car, just make sure you use the longer skinnier rod. You can normally hear a click sound when its locked or unlocked. Then use the shorter thicker rod to open. You push it down to open..

i believe you need to pull up on the lock rod... then push down on the hinge rod

Either way, i'm pretty sure it has to do with the locking side of it (why it won't open)

i believe pulling up on the lock rod locks it. you can see on the passenger side, i push down the lock rod and then push down on the hinge rod and the door opens. yes, i also believe something is wrong with the lock/unlock part of it also. kind of out of ideas at this point.

lol, wasn't sure if it was the opposite on the drivers side since you turn it the opposite way. I dunno, just look on the inside and see which way unlocks.

i had some people asking me about this and it did get fixed. the mechanic used a long screwdriver and stuck it down the window part to get it to unlock. the part that was bad was the locking mechanism by the latch. one of the plastics on the end of one of the cables was worn down so it wouldn't lock/unlock. they tried putting a used part from a parts car at the shop, but it had the same problem. ended up ordering a brand new locking mechanism. i think it was 200+ from the dealer.
