help on choosing ecu?
There are a lot of ecu's to choose from, and I have limited it to the apexi power fc or the pettit reprogrammed ecu, and i need your help. I have downpipe, catless midpipe, apexi gt spec catback, apexi intake, unorthodox pulley set, and front mount intercooler. SRmotorsports claims to have a pre-dyno tested power fc. Would this be a better option then buying a base power fc and dynoing it? I am on a budget but if the power fc is what i need then i will pay the extra money.

Here's a good thread about a similar topic:

It really depends on the goal of your car. Think about what you want to do with the car, that will let you know what ECU you should purchase.

don't race, don't need to
creepy thought here, but what if you just wanted essentially stock performance, just without the fuel cut at 3K, the INSANE amounts of fuel at cold startup (don't even wanna THINK about how much my DP glows during that period!), and air/fuel ratios that more closely match the car's real conditions via A/F sensor that actually does something (broadband). Add on top of that sensors that give real data (do those even exist? I mean, does the ECU's thermosensor REALLY tell it what temp the intake is at, or just that it's above 147F and we can stop dumping fuel in and screwing up the idle with the ISC, breaking the motor mounts, and so on...)? I guess I'd just like the control, but don't necessarily need all kinds of extra power...

edit: or I could just go READ the link you posted Majik. Do the Pettit types (remapped/nonadjustable) pass emissions? Can I search. Should I be banned?

I would imagine that as long as you warm up the car so the cat is at it's best (and all your other emission parts are functioning properly), it shouldn't matter but don't quote me on that.

If I got the PFC with only a few mods, would the ECU be good enugh for my car forever? As long as I have it tuned (at a dyno) every time I upgrade my mods.. wouldn't this be the best bet?

However, for some people, that too much of a hassle or they don't have access to dyno tuning.

Sure, any programmable ECU is "the best bet" *IF* you get it tuned when you get it and keep it tuned as you modify car.
