Help... can't get shifter back into trans after rebuild.

Well we are just putting the finishing touches on my car after doing a rebuilt transmission, single turbo conversion, etc. The problem we are running into, is we can not get the shifter to seat back into the transmission. I understand there is a slot and a pin you have to line up, and it should slide in and bolt down. But we can't get it to go in properly. Any ideas, or has anyone else run into this?

Make sure all of the shift forks are in neutral.

Also, the collar below the fulcrum ball has to be oriented perfectly, otherwise it wont slip in. There should be a notch that shows you which way it goes.

Thanks, we got it figured out, somehow we misplaced a part of the shifter assembly. But now the damn thing doesn't go into 1st gear.
