help, broke stationary gear bolt

my rebuild was going good until today. i was installing the front stationary gear bolts and broke one and it's stuck in the front side housing. i was using a torque wrench but it must have broken because i dropped it. i should have waited and thought about what to do instead a started drilling the bolt to try to get it out. now there doesn't look like theres anything left of the broken bolt , but a bolt still wont go in. i tried to tap the hole but the tap won't go in. i'm using a 8x1.25 tap is this the correct size, any suggestions would be appreciated. thank you

Wow . Torque wrenches have their uses, but if you would have used a simple hand ratchet this wouldnt have happened.....those bolts arent easy to break, you'd have to try pretty hard.

Check the thread pitch against one of the other stat gear bolts, m8x1.25 sounds right but I'm not positive.

Did you actually remove all of the bits of bolt? There could be metal left in the threads...if thats the case, you could try a screw extractor, or take it to a machine shop.

I would suggest the machine shop. The worst they can do is tell you they cant help...the best they could do is fix it the way it should be, and the middle man is drilling it oversize, tapping it and helicoiling it.

All of those could work.
