Help! Anyone! Wiring

Anyone know where to plug this wire? I found it dangling, and it could be the problem for my starting issue? (crappy idles, dies after 2-3 seconds etc.)
I've searched almost the whole internet for this but came to no conclusion, it would be great if anyone could help it looks like the O2 sensor connector, but I have no idea where I plug it in it's near the AWS, right below the UIM.

That's easy - Goes to the water temperature sender for the gauge on the dash. I bet your dash temp gauge doesn't work. For cryin out loud plug it back in, ....plug it in

Wow, you guys are amazing, thanks!
badddrx7 you're right! my water temp sensor isn't working!
But where do I plug it in exactly?
Yeah it's near the second turbo intake pipe, well the wire's pretty long so I kinda pulled it there so it would be more visible in the picture. The connector is actually near where the O2 sensor plugs in, like right under it.
I guess this isn't the problem causing my starting issue... damn.

water temp sender is under the oil filter, looks like a bolt with a little tab coming out of it

The wire doesn't go that far to the water temp sender, I see it though... And it's plugged already (so the water temp gauge in my dash could be faulty). Could the wire be the O2 sensor connector?

If it is the water temp wire, it would need to go under the coils to get there. Anything else and the line will be too short. There are two connectors on that side which are very similar:

Coolant temp
Oil Pressure

See if you have both connected and verify the wire colors to make sure you have the correct wire for the correct sensor.

I checked it out... there's no way it could reach even past the coils. It's only around 6 or so inches long. The wire is on the side which the turbo is on. My oil pressure is plugged for sure, but the coolant temp doesn't work, my coolant gauge never worked.

Check the color of the wire to the clip. Then just check the wiring diagram to find out where it belongs.

It's the water temperature sender wire for sure. Your harness is wooperjawed, meaning the wire needs to be gently pulled over that way and plugged into the spade terminal on the sender. The sender is small and hidden under the oil filter pedestal area. Plug it in and see if your gauge starts working again.

Someone didn't re-install your harness right after installing a new engine.

You can plainly see it in the pic - yellow/white. Confirmed Connector C1-04. Page Z-44 of the green manual.

That was more to get him to use the wiring diagram.

Good job on that...now you're startin' to sound like me, I'm always pointing to having a shop manual if you are serious about maintaining a FD. Absolutely a necessity.

Yeah, the manual is becoming a bible to me, I just downloaded the 1994 wiring diagram I don't think it makes much of a difference right? I see the C1-04, page Z-43, but I can't see how the plug can reach there, it is grounded so the bolt doesn't allow the plug to reach any further past the UIM

Your wiring is really screwed up. Your temperature gauge does not work - Right ? Then let's do one thing at a time. Let's find out if your temperature sender has a wire on it or around it. Look for the temperature sender under the oil filter pedestal - side of engine, above the oil psi sender. Take a picture of that and put it on this thread. We;ll find out what is happening.

By the way, who did you buy your car off of ? Has the engine been replaced ? Engine harness hacked up ?

Wrong ! Ground points 3 and 4 are on top of the engine under the coils. You have something very wrong going on there. We can help if you pay attention.

True you guys seem very experienced, this is my first 7, so yeah... I'm a newbie. Yeah my wiring seems really awkward. I've looked at other people's rx-7's but I can never find that wire. I bought the car off a old mechanic who's right now the person who does some of the mechanical work for us. The engine was swapped, not rebuilt. The engine seems pretty stock at it is. Not much has been done other than a few replaced vacuum hoses from a visual point of view. So it's certain that it's the water temp. Thanks btw, I'm learning a lot as well

Well I certainly want to know the rest of the story here, probably some others do also. So answer these questions...

1. That yellow/white wire - Where does it go exactly?
2. Can you take it loose from where it goes? Or does it go down into the engine harness?
3. Does the temperature sender have a wire connected to it or not ? yes/no

Answer these questions and we'll be on the road to fixing your problem.
