i would like to know what other ooptions i have to keep the car cool. right now i have a fan mod, new thermostat, koyo radiator. i was thinking of a vented hood, but will it make that much of a diffrene? the temperature is over 100 degrees now that summer is here and wont be cooling down much. the water temps in the car are reading around 195 to 199f . i know the motor and seals are ok just had it rebuile about 2 months ago and it has 4k on it now. the ar is mostly driven in town( stop and go traffic) on the freeway car runs around 180f any help would be great

you've done about all you can it seems except for a vented hood or a headlight controller to let in additional air flow. also you could remove your undertray if its not already

are you near the Imperial Valley area? when i broke down in that area last month it was 115...

Anything under 200 degrees is perfect. ****, anything under 220 is ok too. You have nothing to worry about. A vented hood might help a little. If you want to be real ****, you can buy a device that controls the fans and gives you the power to turn them on at certain temps. I'm not sure who makes it, but I am sure someone will chime in here and tell you.

I'd keep the undercover because the idea is you want the air directed into the radiator not around it(many people with aftermarket front ends don't put it back on). A vented hood will help, what ratio of coolant to water are you using? I think you can go as low a 20/80

Anyways... I am not seeing the need to be **** about the temps when they are under 200 degrees in 100 degree heat. That is perfect in my book.

Geez, no kidding, your temps are perfectly fine.

As to removing the undertray idea, 93efini, I suggest you go out and look under your car....you should immediately see why removing the undertray is the last thing you would do...

If you're getting 195-199F coolant temps while the A/C is on in 100F temps I envy you. You're more than fine...you're doing great.

so then i will be alright. i was told by the guy that built it not to let it get over 200f and if it starts to get over 200f to turn the heater on and if that dosent bring them down to turn the car off and let it sit for awhile. so then where is the danger zone? thanks again for everyones help.

Who rebuilt your motor?



Even running the motor in the low 200's is ok. I would start to keep my eye on the gauge when the temps creep to 220 or so. At that point you still have 10-20 degrees to make any changes before it reaches critical temps. I daily drove my FD around So Cal and had no problems. Also, when the temps rose about 210, I would turn the A/C on and they would always go down to reasonable temps. It's because the fans are maxed out when the A/C is on.

put it to A/C and heat? cycle the air or flow thru from outside?



i thought A/C puts more strain on the car's cooling ---> higher temp

Exactly. I used the A/C on method when I had to sit in traffic in LA in the middle of the summer. Never let me down.

The "danger" point isn't until after 230F....to keep things in perspective, the stock ecu doesn't even turn the fans on LOW until 221F. To say to turn your motor off above 200F is simply insane.

i agree it is fine, i live in sacramento and its been hot here too. have the fan mod and digital temp gauge, with the fan always on, my temp is around 180, goes to 185 if i drive hard but doesnt go higher than that. before usually without the hot weather, it was around 174 so i think u should be fine

If you are really worried, do a search and do the fan mod. with the green? wire at the ecu. I bought a used foglight switch, a few feet of wire, took all of an hour. Now I turn the switch on, fans run at medium, temps. come down to around 195F in the summer, well, except yesterday. Passed a bank yesterday on I-5 in Redding and the outside sign said 108! With the air on @ 80mph car was at 210F, highest it has ever got.
