Hello from a newbe

JUst wanted to take a sec and say hello. THis will be my first RX7... I have been doing a lot of reading on 93 rx7's and to be very honest I am a little scared about this car now.. But I can't wait to start playing with it. I got this car with 62,500 miles on a stock engine. can anyone tell me what I should do first. I don't want to get to crazy with this car yet. I will be driving it on the highway a lot about 150 miles a day for the next few months. I bought this car to do all my highway driving. don't know if that was a good choice but for the price I could not pass it up.. let me know your thoughts on what I should do... thanks and this is a great site to get some good info..

What are you engine modifications? The exterior looks good, so what about the engine?

I personally would not use an RX7 as a daily driver. I learned this the hard way. I had to get a beater because my car was always down and mainly from me messing with it. The only problem that resulted from age, was at 80,000 miles my coolant seals started to leak. You car is approaching this water-mark so I would advise saving for a reman (costs around 2000 from malloy mazda). That's what I'm getting shipped to me next week. You could save for a "built" engine but unless you have someone in your area that is sensibly priced then I wouldn't bother.

Very nice car bro it just needs some pretty wheels to beef it up

Any way at 60-80k miles all or most 3d gens will have the water seal problem

I see smoke in the background from the exhaust already in your pic

But smoke on startup is normal, it should not smoke after the temp gauge is at the 9'o clock position....

Don't scare him, I bought my '94 with 60K and it ran beautifully for 15 K untill I crahed it but a car in that shape at 60K is not the norm either... so take care, and read a lot before you decide to do anything to your car, be it performance or reliability mods.....

thanks for all the feed back everyone, I will be the 3rd owner. the car has smoke in the pic cuz it was 28 degrees out there when they took the pic. The first owner disconnected one of the turbos on the car when he was driving it. he was a older man. he sold the car at 60,000 the second owner has had the car for 2 years and put 2000 miles on the car after he hooked up the other turbo & did the body kit and had it repainted. he has no time for the car now so he sold it to me. the engine is bone stock, I am going to do the vacuum hoses as soon as I get the car to San Diego, it is coming from NH. when it gets here I will take a a lot of pics and post them. any ideas for rims? I am not going to get to crazy with the motor cuz I will drive her everyday...just a intake, bov, and new hoses.. anymore feed back would be much appreciated.. anyone from San Diego that would like to help me look over the car when it gets here please let me know...

just making sure you know bov wont give you any performance, just sound.... It sounds like your gonna do alot of driving, so i would say you need to do the reliability mods. (at minimum the ast and a boost gauge) this can and will save your engine

as for rims, im lookin at the volk gt-7's in hyperblack.... so thats my suggestion

Don't bother with wasting your money on an aftermarket BOV if you don't plan on pusing more than stock or near stock boost. Just vent the stock Air Bypass Valve and you'll get that "woosh" sound. If you need any help working on it, I'll be in San Diego for all of December.

Search search search. 99% of your modding questions (Reliability & upgrades) have been answered throughly several times. There really is no need to do the hose job unless you are experiencing boost problems. Many have ended up with more problems when they had none to begin with.

Excuse me for saying so but you may want to rethink your mods list. Intake should not be one of your primary mods. Bov well somebody said it already.

As soon as the car gets here get that baby smogged. Next get a downpipe & boost gauge. The downpipe is one of the best things that you can do to your car.It not only increases HP but insures a longer life on your engine.

It's like this: The pre-cat tends to get clogged and greatly reduces boost (at 60k your is prolly suffering already). Even a Healthy pre-cat creates heat and causes early engine failures. Replacing the pre-cat with the downpipe obviously increases flow and displaces the heat away from the engine. Win-win situation

BTW- you are lucky that you live in LA. Much better shops than what we got here in San Diego.

I don't know about that costa mesa-san diego drive though. F-that...
