Hello FD Friends! Need some Help!

Well after many years of owning FB's and FC's... I am looking in to buying a 1995 with 97K miles. Automatic.

The car orginaly had black and tan interior...However he is painted EVERYTHING black. Door cards...plastic pieces...exc. He has installed an in dash DVD/CD player. SUBS out the wazzooo. Honestly I am not interested in that at all. He has all the stock equipment to go back...however the painting is already done. The drivers seat is torn and will have to be replaced.

The main issue that I am facing right now is at idle the oil pressure is at 0 ... If you rev the engine to about 3000RPM the oil pressure will go up to about 20. I drove the car and even running the car hard it never go above 40PSI. The guage kinda bounced all over the place... My question is- Are the guages/sending unit in these usually pretty accurate or were they a problem?

There is a body kit installed. Paint looks good. I would remove the body kit!

Engine/Turbo's are stock.

The big question is... Is the car worth 11,500? IMO it is about a 6 on a scale of 1-10. With 10 being the best. HOWEVER I do not know anything about the FD's. If someone could enlighten me... I would greatly appreciate it.

Are interior parts hard to come by?

all else aside the FD's oil pressure sender is not reliable at all. it may need to be replaced or just the contacts cleaned. search for oil pressure or oil sender. good luck with the rest.

Did you check the oil level? It may sound obvious and you may have already checked, it's just the first place I would start.

You can find the interior parts here on the forum in the For Sale section or on Ebay sometimes.

$11,500 is a good deal for a '95 considering the rarity of them. I would get the engine's compression tested though.

airborne is correct about the oil pressure sensor. Check out the FAQ:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

Read that and the links listed in it. There's a ton of good info for new FD owners there.

For $11,5k for an automatic with 97k miles, and the teenage subs and bodykit, I'd pass. I think you can find a non-butchered auto for that price with less mileage. You're talking about spending quite a few bux chaning out body parts back to OEM and potentially trying to source interior parts. You come across some interior parts pretty easily but the condition isn't always that great. Check out the Classified section below to give you an idea on parts costs.

The most important question is what is the compression on the motor? I get the impression that you didn't get a compression check. Go to the FAQ (4th or so Sticky from the top of the 3rd gen section) and look for the buyers guide.

The good news is that tan interiors are much easier to find than black ones. It seems many folks are switching tan to black.

If he just painted the car don't asume you can just peel off the body kit and see good paint underneath. You may need to paint some of the body parts covered by the body kit.

I went and looked at the car again today... I think that Alberto MG said it the best... The teenage butcher job that has been done to this car... to me... has GREATLY deminished the value of the car. I saw a 95 this morning with 56K miles. BONE STOCK. He was asking 14,900. I guess its like my grandmother always said... "It only takes a few bucks more to go first class"... Why spend 11,500 when your going to have to put AT LEAST 1,000 in interior parts alone....Not to mention the oil pressure switch/guage... leaky oil pan...and FURTHERMORE...its a damned AUTOMATIC! anyway...sorry... I am going to continue my search! Thanks for all yalls input!

If you don't want an automatic, don't even bother looking at one. Unless I am mistaken (not likely), only the 93's came with tan interior. This 95 car should not have any tan except for maybe carpets and seats.

You will be much happier following Grandma's advice
