Oil levels never drop, but what color smoke would I be getting if it was coolant?

I want to say it's blue/white smoke which I contributed to it running too rich.

Well, does it have a sweet smell? Coolant is very distinctive.

I'll check that. Never thought about coolant.

Ugh, car is stock. I've had it for about 7 years now hardly drive it. Bought it when it had 12k miles on it.

I never thought to ask if that was the original engine. Two questions for ya : Any way I can check on the engine and how much are we talking about for a rebuild?

sweet smell & white smoke = coolant being burned.... Blue smoke and oil smell = oil burning( a little looks and smells like alot....).... Black smoke and a fuely smell = too rich .... Rebuild = 3-6 thousand dollars(ouch!!!!) Might as well get some performance mods added into the rebuild if you want them.Hopefully the turbos aren't bad as well= more $$

I hate to say it, but if your in TN give Garfinkle a call: 615-893-4469. Apparently he's the man in that area (or he's some mind controlling cult that gets people saying Garfinkle this and Garfinkle that.... ).

I'd probably try and sell it if I'll need a rebuild and try find me another one.

Thanks for the tip Mahjik, but do you know of anyone closer to Memphis? :p

I wouldn't do that. Why? Take the time to find out what all is wrong with the car, find out how much it's going to cost. The reason is, you may be trading your problems for someone elses which could be worse. At least with your car, you have the opprotunity to take care of things right the first time.

Nope, sorry I don't. However, I would look for the closest FD specialist and Garfinkle is the closest to you. Even if it's an hour or so away, it would be worth it in the end to have someone look at the car that knows exactly what they are doing.

Good luck.

Garfinkle is about 3 hours away. RX-7 Heaven used to be in Memphis, but I think he moved to somewhere in Mississippi... I'll have to hunt them down.

As a quick stop gap measure couldn't I take it to the local Mazda dealer with a rotary tech and get a compression test done?

I would call Garfinkle and see what he thinks about this.
I wouldn't really think you need a rebuild with so little miles. It's probably the turbo seals. And don't sell your car and get another yours is low mileage. If you really want we can trade cars plus some money. Mines for sale : )

Gas in oil is normal, dies while a/c is on has nothing to do with the motor being messed up. Don't take it to mazda see what garfinkle says first. I think they can handle doing a compression test if needed though.

Thanks Snook. I'm sure I can come up with an amount you can pay me. :P

Seriously though, I'll call Garfinkle and see what he says.
