Heating during city drives

Been looking over some of the old posts on overheating. When I drive my car for a while my temps quickly rise to 90C or above if I don't turn my A/C and fans on to 3. I have to leave it on for the rest of the drive to stay in normal operating temps. Am I going to have to do this all the time or just during drives in the city. Keep in mind that I do push my car occasionally.

thanks.

yes, i do when im in the city. but i dont like to drive around with the a/c on from stop and go (its kinda sluggish getting off the line). i just leave my parking lights on and the fans will kick in at 210f.

you can do the manual fan mod, or you can get a power fc and set your fans to come on earlier (not sure if the other ecus can do this)

I'm too paranoid to let it get to 210f.

Hmm, is the fan mod necessary if I can just turn the fans on through A/C anyways? I also have the turbo timer to keep my fans on after shutoff, so I'd rather avoid an extra switch if possible.

Using the AC doesnt always work right away, or the best since the compressor is involed. Doing the fan mod is quite simple and allows u to turn your fans on at hte flip of a switch.

210 F is not a big deal, hell the stock fans don't come on until 221 F!

Heating up while at low speeds/stop-and-go happens to every car, not just the FD. The only thing is every other car on earth has the fans coming on much sooner than 221 F.......

FWIW, I do the same thing right now JX7. I just pop on the A/C occasionally to keep temps reasonable. I have found with my recently installed Fluidyne that the car heats up a little more slowly and cools down faster when in motion.

I will be getting a PFC in the next month or so and will set it to turn my fans on at a lower temp.

Another solution, which nobody has mentioned yet is to install the thermosensor from a Miata. This will kick the fans on at 207 F, instead of 221 F.

Doing the fan mod is easy, and cheap. $5 for a switch and a few feet of wire. 20 minutes to install. If you don't like it, just disconnect it.

I just flick the parking light. The AC generates more heat under hood. As for fan mod, I don't want to do it bc if you lend the car to someone else or have it valet, there is always the good chance of them not knowing what to do or forgetting it.

fan mod
do it and leave it on all the time

you car will run at 185 and stay there always
when you run it hard it will get to 195 maybe and then quickly go down again

I would die without it

do people still let their cars get to 210 and 220??
my motor has never seen past 195

I guess I'll go with the fan mod when I find the time. The wiring may be too much for me, considering my experience. Anyone wanna help out me and scratchjunkie in bay area? lunch and beers on him. =)

Guys give me a break it takes about 15 minutes.

If you don't know what you are doing at all maybe an hour. Just print out directions and go for it. Get some wire and a switch from radioshack.

Do it and get some confidence for working on the car. I don't even consider this really working on the car.

Trust me I'm a newb too this is doable

If your in San Francisco, i would just disconnect to wire to the ac compressor, this way when you turn on the ac it will only turn on the fan. It doesnt get hot enough in SF to use the ac, at least not right now. I've never had any problems with the cooling system during hard city driving.
