Heater help... does not work!

Here are the Basics. I just bought the car over the winter and the heater did not work. The blower shoots air through all the vents and even the A/c works. I even put the vent **** to only shoot air through the feet vents and still no heat. Every time I tried this the car was fully warmed up with the coolant temp gauge at the 9 o'clock positon.

Here is what i have done so far to try and remedy the problem. I thought it might be a clogged heater core so i managed to pull the inlet and outlet hoses off in the engine bay. I shot compressed air through in the inlet and it shot out the outlet hose with no problems. I then ran water through the core with no problems either and no "gunk" came out, just clear water.

I have come to the conclusion that the problem is electrical or mechanical under the dash somewhere? Should the be a noise heard when you change the air temp **** from cold to hot and vice versa? If no noise is heard what could be my problem and what should I do?

Thanks again for all the help!!

go out and feel the lines going into and out of the heater core. if they are both hot then you have a blend door problem in the dash

Yes, both inlet and outlet hoses are hot. How do i go about fixing the door under the dash? I tried going to www.iluvmyrx7.com (service manual) to see an exploded view of what you are talking about, but there is no drawings on the heating system or anything under the dash?

Does anyone know where I can get the heating and air conditioning chapter from the service manual? If anyone can e-mail it to me or give me the link it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!

The only ducts that heated air comes out on FD's are the defroster vents. Nothing is wrong.

I may not be absolutely correct with this. But if I recall correctly I remember reading a while ago that this was true. Maybe somebod with a little bit more knowledge will chime in soon.

I think its just the middle face vents you don't get heat out of. Safety feature so you don't warm yourself to sleep.

I get tons of hot air out of the floor vents though. Heck anytime the engine is running and i'm in the car my feet sweat. Just thinking about it makes me want to get a drink of cold water.

a quick search turns up this thread:

It may not be the factory manual but this looks like it should be helpful:

Ok I think I have traced my problem to a stuck air mix door, how do I go about getting it unstuck?

Well I got the problem fixed. Turns out that the harness that connects to the air-mix door actuator was disconnected.

Thanks for the help

UHM... NO. In the owners manual it will tell you to use the floor setting to heat up your car. Those are the vents that give out the hottest air. Second is the defroster then the face vents. Mazda has done some dumb things but to have hot air ONLY shoot out in the defroster setting... that's too far.
