Heat problems

Im havnt actually got an RX-7 but im looking to buy one if i can convince my dad that there reliable (he's kickin in some of the money). I've read the "buying a used RX-7" that i've seen posted around and gathered that the biggest problem is overheating. I live in central NSW of Australia so it gets pretty hot as it is, just wantedto know if anyone lives around that area or experiance dealing with heat on days of high 30 degree celcuis days?

Yeah that does seem like a killer, and as always heat definately is not gonna help that engine. Im 18 and also had to do some convincing on my father. New radiator, fans, oil coolers, new AST, and just look at all your hoses, I didnt even bother looking at them really, I just bought all new hoses and spark plugs everything to start out with. Those should cool your engine down a lot and make it a lot more reliable. Also putting a single turbo in would free up a lot of space in your engine and remove a lot of the heat. However, dont forget to get the recalls fixed if they are needed on your car, doing all that to cool the engine down wont do a thing if fuel is leaking on your engine or your loosing coolant, which I believe where the 2 big recalls that were causing fires. People only heard the worst with rx-7's if they just got off their lazy butts and got the recalls fixed and did a little work they would see the potential that these cars actually have. Obesity is growing! Thats how I got the extra $$$ from my dad, good luck with yours.

Haha as of right now like 50 degrees, not a lot at all today at least. I live 5 blocks away from the shore, so the wind off of the shore keeps it pretty cold. Should have just let the air cool down the engine :P

lol nice. Do you know if you get much body damage from the shore side air? i've heard that carbodies tend to rust easier, unlike outback aus where we just let them melt in the blistering heat

Hmm good question, I wouldnt know I've garaged both of my cars that I've had so far. I'll have to ask the pimped out honda owners that live 2 towns over, but I'm sure they wouldnt notice with all the rust that was on the car when they bought it. I live near a town where its like an import car show every friday and saturday, civics, integras, all the z's including 350, american muscle cars, suvs with ungodly sound systems. Street racing is a lot of peoples lives there. It's a lot of fun to go there with an almost stock 3rd gen rx-7 and be the crap out of tons of other cars where kids have spend enormous amounts of time and money in their cars, but dont get me wrong, I give them a ton of respect.

Sounds a blast, here i have a town with 2 count them 2 main streets about hmmmm mabey a 1/4 or a bit longer mostly ur crappy holdens or fords, dont mis qoute me there both alright cars, but these are usually ones people have tried to do up, and if taken anywhere near civilization would get there *** absolutely kicked.

So the town near you sounds to me like what new york would be the absolute dumbest country 6 fingered hick you have ever met/seen/heard of. no offence to dumb 6 fingered hicks AKA people from parkes

Yeah sorta, it's really odd. Starting from my town traveling there you pass through a very rich town, then a very hick town, then a ghetto town, back through a rich town then you get to this nice long highway with lots of parking lots to show off your car, and lots of street lights to do the same.

Has anyone rigged up extra fans/blowers to aircool the engine compartment better? Does it work? How about front license plates the rotate out of the air vent path? What does it take for putting in added oil coolers? Any overtemp indicators other than the coolant guages? NASA scoops and air baffles to direct cooling air like light planes? Auxiliary water mist cooling spray setups?
I hear aftermarket intercoolers and single stage turbos and less engine back pressure help a lot, but wondering if the other approaches have been tried and work.
