Question Having trouble removing ECU

I can't seem to contort my body enough to see what I'm doing under the dashboard. What I want to know is how the heck do I get the factory harness unplugged from the factory ECU? It seems like all I should have to do is squeeze a tab on each harness and then pull it out. They won't budge though. Am I missing something?

It's a shame as much as the PFC costs, they can't include coherent instructions and mounting hardware other than double sided tape.

Do a search for removing ECU, I've seen some how-to's on it, you should find good instructions on removing your stock ECU.

Tony, you got it right. Its just that those ******* tabs are a bitch to get loose.
Just puch them in, in the center and when you got them squeezed in as much as your fingers car handle then pull them loose.
Keep at it, they come out eventually.

Yep, the harnesses take some patience and hand muscle to wrestle loose. What I found amazing was this plastic snap clip on the upper bracket -- it took a screwdriver and hammer to get that sucker out!

Having just installed the PFC two weeks ago, I strongly suggest you dremel or saw a chunk out of the upper bracket so you can re-use it (to make clearance for the commander/data-logit connection. By doing this, you can velcro the PFC to both brackets and re-ground the ecu and fan recall box to the bracket as they are with the stock ecu.

PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks for the responses guys. I thought I was doing it right but thought I'd post here to make sure before my fingers started bleeding. Turns out what worked for me is while I pressed the tab in with one hand, I'd pry underneath the harness with a flat head screwdriver and rotate it which would gradually slide the plug out.

Rynberg, I'll send you a pm in a minute here...

that is the best way. push the tab enough to get it unhooked, then all you need is a small flat head to pry it out

the position I used to work ont he ecu is upside down in the passenger seat. To get to this postion. I get on my knees. then crawl in head first until my head is right next to the ecu. then I twist my body until my stomach is faceing up. lol it wasn't comfy for the first 5 minutes.

Use a small flat head to pry the connectors out.

Hahahaha, sounds exactly like what I did to work down there. It's a PITA, no doubt. I have no idea how big guys do it....
