Has My Engine Blown Please Help

If anyone can help please do i was at the drag strip and took the car down it a few times and all was ok i was going home driving slowly stopped at the petrol station and kept on going when i stopped in font of my house the car started shaking a bit on low revs 1000rpm to 850rpm popped the hood and the engine was shaking a little bit even the exhaust note was a bit chunky got in the car and belted it there seems to be no loss in power it's working normaly from 2000rpm upwards but as soon as i drop to 1000rpm the car seems to choke and doesent have any power and it turned off a couple of times the car is totally standard i just got it 2 days ago it starts up normally with no hesitation there is a slight clunking noise on idle but as soon as you up the revs slighty it goes away i do not know what to do it's my first rx7 i do not want it to be my last thanks in advance for any advice given

Thanks
John

check spark..pull your plugs look at the wires too

you shouldnt be driving a bone stock rx7 on the track unless you know the fd inside out your just asking to break something without any idea of what to do about it

Do you have a boost gauge? What is the vacuum at idle?

i only have the stock boost gauge thats in the dash i drove the car there isn't any loss in power but the exhaust fumes do smell like there is oil in it
here in Malta the drag strip opens every weekend and all car enthusiasts come down and race against each other just for fun it's not like an all out drag event it's just so we don't go out racing on the roads

well, what kind of vacuum is the stock gauge showing? take note of the idle rpm, and also if it's a steady needle or if it's fluctuating.

i checked the stock boost gauge it is in mmhg it says to multiple by 10 it's reading -20mmhg the idle rpm is between 850/900 rpm and the needle is steady but the engine is shivering like and there is a small clunking noise on idle only as soon as you up the revs like up to 2000rpm it's gone

TurboIIrotary - 96-02 FDs had the oil pressure gauge replaced with a boost gauge on the dash.

a steady -20mhg at 850-900rpm idle sounds healthy from what I know.

Have you gotten a compression check yet? That'll let you know real quick if it's blown or not.

Your engine wouldn't have lost a seal if no real loss in power, but it may have cracked an apex seal. If that's the case failure is imminent. The best thing to do would be to try to run a compression test at this point and go from there.

If the needle is not fluctuating I would guess it's not blown; however, the ONLY way to verify that is by a compression test. We could guess about it all day long but until you get a comp test, it's just guesses.

so just out of curiosity guys how much boost is a bog standard rx7 suppose to have and could hitting the rev limiter a few times cause such a problem as a cracked apex seal you guys may call me crazy but do you think this is possible if the engine is blown or has a broken seal see video link

stock boost is 10PSI. Overboosting will cause a broken apex seal, but I'm not so sure about hitting the rev limiter.

evilg: I don't know specifically what years came with the boost gauge. I thought it started in 96, but it might have been 98 or 99. http://www.fdnewbieimports.com/Backup/product.php?n=22

you'd saved some face if you hadn't put the video up. you need to anty up and go do the engine compression and stop beating on your rx. If you got away with only a blown engine, you're getting off lucky imo.

+1, you dont know anything about the car and you beat on it like that when its having a problem, something is going to and will break because of your ignorance, go get a compression test before we see another thread saying i blew my motor and now selling the car

update guys i did sort of a compression test i did it the way it is stated here http://www.aaroncake.net/rx-7/blown.htm and the engine sounds perfect but i still have booked it in to be checked by a mechanic when i talked to him on the phone and explained what is happening he said it sounds like a fuel problem he thinks it has to much and he said it could also be a malfunctioning sensor could this be possible

-200 mmhg at that rpm on stock ports is horrible. I'm surprised the motor doesnt stall out with vacuum that low. Not a good sign.

the engine does stall out on low revs 1000rpm- 2000rpm the car has no strength the more gas i give it the it dies out that's why i think's its a fuel problem
