Has anyone weighed the sound deadening in our cars?

I need to drop some more weight out of my car this weekend and I'd like to know how much the sound deadening weighs.

Has anyone done this and weighed it?

pull your dash and go nutz with the stuff behind it, if you want to drop some weight. Lose your stereo and speakers...can you hear it with the car ON anyway?

then go for a jog and drink/eat lots of fiber, and finish with liquid cleansing diet for two days

I need to keep my stereo just for the fact that it keeps me from believing that I've got a racecar

What else is under the dash? Anyone know how to remove the heater? Does the dash have to be removed and how much does all the heater accesories weigh?

I guess I'll probably remove the heater core/evaporator and fan assembly when this weekend too. Anyone know how much this stuff weighs?

You can still have a 'stereo' and reduce weight.

use hole saw to remove extrea metal from internal doubled up panels.

light weight rims is very good saving in unsprung weight, below suspension is most valuable savings.

Dash removal, headlight conversion, lightweight fiberglass or CF panels, this list can go on and on
i stand corrected about the 30lbs. in a 1st gen yes it also depends on how far your willing to go to remove the tar its going to mean pulling up all the carpet and pulling the dash!

Get some dry ice or have an air chisel handy.

when i pulled the deadening out of my FB it was between 25 and 30 pounds. it doesn't look like it weighs much, but it makes a huge difference. I used dry ice and a claw hammer to crack the tar and pull it up. don't hit too hard or else you'll dent the metal.

I want to pull my heater core too but I want to do it without pulling my dash. Anyone know if this is possible?

I got my car light by removing things that aren't needed (For me).

The best way to remove the deadening tar is a heat gun and putty knife. Heat it and follow with the putty knife, peels up like butter

I think the dry ice is easier, less messy and better smelling.

I'll probably start out with ice then follow it up with a heat gun and putty knife.

Just take the bitch apart and have it acid dipped. Won't get any lighter than that. Then order some Ti/Aluminum and plastic bolts and nuts that you could use in certain areas.

Why won't regular ice work? I know that it might be messy but why won't it work?

it's not cold enough. -180 vs. 32? big difference. make sure you wear leather gloves when you're using it because it'll mess up your hands.

You have to freeze that stuff hard to chisel it off. The tar on the floorpan weights around 12 pounds if I remember correctly. You can also remove the undercoating and the big rubber/felt matt on the firewall as well as behind all the interior panels.

Not to be rude, but really, how many of you track your car? 30 ******* pounds...lose some weight from your waste.

There is a good chance that if someone has come to the last resort of removing sound deadening from their car that there is a good reason for it. Be it that they track the car or just because it makes them feel like they are going faster.
