Has anyone used the true HID H4 Kit with the OEM pop-up lights?
We all know how crappy the lighting is with the FD. I've already upgraded with PIAA H4 Super whites, but I could really use better lighting... Has anyone doen this upgrade? I've seen the bulbs and ballasts for sale on ebay for $300-400 bucks. I was wondering if it would be worth it.

I haven't personally done this, but I know of people who've use Visions(similar kit) HID kit on a VW Passat using the stock headlight and stuff. It works really well, as long as you can find creative places and ways to mount the ignitor and ballast.
The only issue with HID's and non clear headlight housing is that the dispersion is too extreme, HID's work best when you have clear glass. I've got the OEM Hella HID's on my Passat and it's wonderful. At the same time, these bulbs are shooting out so much light that they'll be definitely better than the stock and fake xenon bulbs.
I believe the Visions kit sold for about $450..so if you can grab this for less than that, and are mechanically adept, then you can handle this..you may want to upgrade the fuses for the headlights to atleast 20A if not already there..

The only time that HIDs place a strain on the wiring harness is during startup/turn on (of the lights). After that, the current draw is lower then that of the stock halogens.
It would probably be safer to uitlize a HD harness, like that found for using with high wattage halogen lights, like the 80w PIAAs I have (or had - they burnt out hehe). The stock harness is so crappy.
