Question Has anyone tried Idemitsu synthetic oil?

I saw the ad in RXTuner mag. Evidently it was used in the 787B, and RP is a dealer for the stuff.

I doubt it. Here is an earlier discussion of it, which of course devolved into synthetic usage...

If it is going to be anybody around here, it will be someone from the Far East...

Rotary Performance uses Idemitsu in their racecar, not the american flag one, the other one Chris recommended it to me but I went with Amsoil (I'm biased I guess )

Sigh. And I have read that the holocaust never happened. Does this make it true?

There is a lot of bullshit on the internet, and esp on forums populated with 16 yr olds. You must have your Bullshit Filter on "Extra High" at all times

Think I am going to call Ari and try out a case of 10w30 Idemitsu. The 20w50 amsoil I am running right now is giving me high oil pressure in this NJ cold.

With synthetic, I have been changing every 3k. Since I started building my own, the oil gets much less fuel dilution. go figure.

I know you say that Rich, but I would like to see the proof....are you judging by smell only?

I don't buy it

also....Amsoil, Mobil 1, Redline....they are all good products....what does this offer except increased mark-up?

here's a hint: nothing

Nope, side seal clearances.

And there is a marked difference between mobil1 and the royalpurple/redline/amsoil trio.

Excessive side seal clearances lead to increased blowby, ie fuel vapor dilution in your oil. When I was paying a shop money for rebuilds, they reused my side seals, which were way too loose. Starting building myself and clearancing properly, and like magic the problem vanished.

Compression, don't know, don't really care. Only about 4k miles on it, fires right up when heat soaked. My low boost dyno results are posted for all the world to see.

That's all well and good. Definitely try to buck the trend, and prove me wrong. Nothing would make me happier......unfortunately, odds are that by the time you are old enough to legally drink alcohol, you will have crashed your FD.

mad7tist, please define 'goblin' for me, lol

In every scientific study/comparo that I have read about over the years, Mobil1 is always the worst-performing of the synths. I have torn down numerous 13b engines that had been run on Mobil1 exclusively that showed abnormal wear. Recently read here on the forum that Mobil1 starts with a poor quality base stock vs the other three mentioned. I am not going to dig up the threads, draw your own conclusions .

interesting....buddy of mine completed a 20 lap roadrace on his bike with a busted oil pump, splash oil lubrication only...no damage or wear....he also builds race engines and has for about 10 years

he runs Mobil 1 exclusively, so do several other racers I know

everyone has their pet oil....Mobil 1 is as good as the others until I see proof otherwise (not on Amsoil's website)...the others are more expensive because you can't buy them at Wal Mart and they sell a fraction of what Mobil 1 sells

edit, kento will probably chime in on this because Sport Rider had an excellent oil comparison awhile back....I'm not saying Mobil 1 is THE best, I'm saying it is good quality stuff
