haaaa!!! Car finally coming together, come take a look:)

Here's after a couple weeks of intense labor (prepping). Turned out really nice for a $300 paint job

Here's a shot of the engine with the twin turbos, dp connected, exhaust routed, runs and will drive next week after some time of finding any bolts that need tightened. IC is already made but will not be installed for a couple weeks, I want to make sure the engine drives fine w/o boost before beating on it.

OMG is that a Chevy LT1 engine in there?? What have you done to the RX7!! Its not a pure RX7 anymore.

Exterior wise it looks good for a $300 paint job, what did you use aersol cans? But, seriously you mean $3000 right?

also the corner lights arent in on the last pics.

did you just paint it orange or something? if so why didnt you take the pics of exterior with the new paint?

actually, it probably ended up to be about $400-$500. I painted this car in my own garage and it turned out awesome. Took some time to learn how to flow the clear so it would come out like glass but it paid off. It was $100 for paint, $150 for clear, and the rest went to prepping supplies

Those last two pics are about 2 months old. It looks orange but it was just a really sunny day and appears that way. I wanted a really bright red and I guess sometimes it might look orange. I'm looking at the car right now in the sunlight and it look really bright red, no orange at all

Gunmetal? I'm not really sure. I'm starting to not like them anymore though. Probably going to get the Volk GT-U in bronze

damn i wish I had a place to paint my car I would attempt to paint her myself instead of paying 3-4k for a crispy paint job when i'm sure I could do it myself with enough time, care and patience... Great job!

WOW!

You're my hero.

That is a tremendous FD. I love the engine, lights and paint...and all still twin turbo.
Congrats man. It would be hypocritical to make your car the new 'featured car' of the site, because of the V8, but damn you sure do get close. Much nicer then mine.

Umm....good quality paint would cost considerably more than that for a full repaint. I applaud your DIY attitude, but I think you're going to regret it later. I can already tell just from the pics that it's not a great paint job....

The work on the engine setup looks tremendous though -- I've been following a few of your other threads re: the engine work. Assuming no further problems, when do you predict you'll be done? What gearing changes have you made to make it streetable? What are you going to use this car for -- track use or just highway beatings...

I got recommended this paint from a guy I truely believe to be the best painter in my town. Dupont Nason for base coat. He said it's cheap but works just as good as more expensive base coats. The base coat is not what you'll be seeing anyways, it's just a base. I used Dupont Chromaclear for clear. This is what shops typically use for cars on repaint. So, yes a show quality paint job will cost way more than what I spent, but at that price I might as well just spent the extra $2000 to have a pro do it. I wanted to use the mid priced paint to keep the price low in case I did mess up, I'm not gonna be kicking myself in the ***. How can you tell from the pics it's not a great paint job From what I can see it looks perfect, you can't even see my runs I know it ain't perfect but it's probably better than 1/2 the pro shops around here

After re-reading my post above, I realized it comes off a little harsh sounding. I didn't mean that the paint job sucked by any means, just that you can tell it's not a state-of-the-art job, that's all.

What kind of paint did you get that it was so cheap?

why do people love to put V9 engine on such a small car?

such a sad thing that people converted into V8's instead of leaving as it is.

a little harsh? It's a damn kick in the face Seriouly, I know it ain't no show quality, top 2% in the nation, but I still consider it to be a very good paintjob even when looking at how much I spent money wise. Labor wise I must have spent 50hrs just prepping alone. Shooting the paint took a total of about 25hrs, painted any parts that detached from the car seperate so it took 3 times to do the whole car. The reason it took so long to shoot is cause I also color sanded before shooting the clear. I've never painted anything that came out as flat as this did. Color sanding works!!

I used Dupont Nason paint, as stated in the earlier post. Clear was Dupont chromaclear

fastcarfreak, it's alittle embarrasing to say it should have about 450rwhp by this summer. I'm only running stock internals so 8psi is about my max. I plan on stroking out the motor this christmas with forged internals, 383ci probably. Then I'll be able to turn the boost up. My tuner believes I can have about 1000rwhp, I'd be happy with 700-800rwhp

Str8Down, the front is R-Magic typeII. This bumper has been discontinued though

Reliability. Own a 7 long enough and you'll understand.

so let me get this straight... your going to pay **** load of cash on your engine to make an insane about of power, my guess will cost at least 5k just in parts for the engine to make 1000whp...right...and you wont pay 2k for a paint job?

i mean dont get me wrong, im not downing anything, but if your going to spend that much on your motor. why not on the whole car to make it better than most, just like your power?

me alone, im going to spend 2k on a paint job very soon(i am very low on cash flow), i dont see that being alot for a paint job, considering some are over 5k... it just seems like your pulling some strings here.
