Guys, read this, these pumps are still `3 solenoid` (2 front w/ 1 rear). I made an honest mistake (#1 for buying into ramy's ****, #2 not updating this thread).
These pumps have 2 ports (front left & front right) as well as 1 rear port.

I hope this clears up any misunderstandings.

For those of us who do have the 2001-2002 pumps, we're moving forward with our installs as this isn't an issue for us.

The updated braking algorithms, addition of EBD, the fact that these parts are at least ~5 years newer (less likely to fail due to less usage, age, and newer manufacturing technology), and that they're significantly more compact warrant the effort (which is actually pretty minimal now that hwnd did the dirty work) in my book.

Agreed, may benefits, even if still 3-Channel. But probable at expense of greater failure risk.. at least from review of comments of the Bosch 5.3 as used on Euro cars .. higher risk of solder joint failures, must be a vibartion problem with the CPU now intergral vs installed in rear of car.

I have a spare F146 pump (bad computer) should it be needed for a reason or another.

Interesting info. I guess that'd make the pre Spirit-R units the most desirable as they have the benefits of the upgraded braking and the separate computer. . .

Hmm, maybe I'll reconsider selling my extra setup after all.

You're 100% right. Those guys did seem to bring up that issue a lot.

In the short, I have a spare computer (already hacked open) sure you need a clear view of the insides. Re-soldering those connections will not be a big deal at all should they break while in service.

Well the separate system does not offer EBD

Has anyone gone through with this and noticed better abs performance?

I've got one of these as well but can't find the Japanese 01-02 wiring diagram/pinout for the ABS units. Without that I just have a fancy paperweight next to me. Anyone have any luck?

I didn't realize this thread was still semi active until now..

Has anyone looked at using the RX8 ABS unit? it's got a hell of a lot more to offer than these older ones do and they are on ebay for $100?

The last time I looked at the RX8 ABS unit, it was the option to go with considering the price, availability and its much more advanced than the '02 unit ever was.

in fact, doesn't the RX8 have some tricky stuff in it like yaw sensor, steering input and traction control? ...thats more of what I'd want on my car.

Now after getting over the Hyundai logo; the presentaion explains where EBD controls differ from ABS; it alos raises more questions. "X" crossed brake lines line pre ABS days, this will make plumbing a little more complex (we need to '99 + parts diagrams) and need for an Acceleratmeter; did Mazda put it in the CPU box or is it monuted outside in cable path (we need '99 wiring diagrams)

I have been prepping myself to do this swap next month however am still hitting the same obstacles Julian points out above.

1. I have not been able to verify if the 99-00 pump F133-43-7A0A and separate computer F132-67-650 has the EBD feature. The pump sure looks like a Bosch 5.3 unit simply with Mazda connectors. The F146 pumps with Bosch connectors look identical except on the prop valve, the F146 has a smaller bolt head on the valve itself. Perhaps this changed the mechanical ratio?

http://www.rx7.net.nz/fd-jp-models.html

This website shows the ABS software was updated in 99 while the pump was changed in 2000 along with EBD being added?

2. I have not seen a diagram of the brake lines for the 99+ models. Some Bosch 5.3 documentation does point out possible x pipes, acceleration sensors etc...

3. It would be nice to have a modern ABS system WITH EBD such as the Bosch Motorsport unit however at 8k....it's a little overkill. Surprised no aftermarket company has come up with a way to alter the ABS settings on common Bosch 5.3 systems.

http://www.bosch-motorsport.com/cont...rochure_en.pdf

4. I'll keep digging and figure out if it's worth the effort swapping in the newer systems.

Pinout could be the same as other Bosch 5.3 units. Lots of diagrams available.

Thanks, but we have been there. I posted same document in 2009 on post #98, we even found P/N for the Bosch connector .. but still alot of missing pieces to the puzzle.

i bumped to this thread because i have abs issue. my light stays on and i am thinking i have the wrong ecu for the abs pump but not sure.
number abs pump is F123 43 7A .. and ecu is FD31 67 650
it is a JDM from 94 and the other one was also jdm but 93 with other abs pump. so i am thinking i mixed it together.

The numbers are right, these ecu's were ment to be working with F123 pumps.
By the way there's a diagnostic function on these ECU's but my knowledge stops here.

Oh have you checked brake fluid level?

It is possible to use abs unit from kia sorento?
Why we have to use abs only from mazda?
I read the pdf and I think that this boss abs unit is very good.

The hardware is the same, as it is for most cars using Borch systems however the important part is the programing to the particular cars parameters.

You mean for example, that the bosch abs 5.3 on sorento have different program from abs 5.3 on audi a4?
