Guages: steering column or center channel

I'm going to be placing at least a boost guage in my car, but I want to make sure that I keep a clean stock look, and I don't want to obstruct my view for those twisties.

Please provide some experience/opinions with:
-The steerign column mount
-The center channel (replaces dash speaker) mount

Anything else I should be considering?

TIA

Border Meter panel

Less obtrusive than a center channel design I would think, and 2 gauges will fit

Assuming I am serious about my car...
Should I be expecting to use two guages for sure?

You should be using more then 2 gauges if your serious about your car... what does that mean anyways?

I like the design where the pod is right behind the steering wheel, but infront of the tach. Then the "micky mouse" ear setup. With those you won't have to look away from the road much.

Yes, you're right, 'serious' doesn't say much. We can safely discontinue the subjective tangent about how many guages I should be using.

However, if I only 'need' one guage, that would seem to affect my choice of pods...

Here is an example of the guage location I mentioned above.

FD Seeker: Your definitly going to want to add more then one guage as you go along.

I would also get a water temp gauge asap too.. You may only "need" a boost gauge at the moment but I would suggest that you get a water temp gauge too because as everyone knows the stock water temp gauge is not much better than a dummy light...

I like the column mount myself...that's what I have. By the way, I love the avatar.

To complete the stock look, relocate the AC controls and put guages into the dash. I pick up my boost and A/F guages today .. will do the install over the next couple of weeks. Will post pics once it's done.

I look forward to seeing your custom work on this.

What about using the available stereo bay (when an all-in-one head unit is used)??? (Is it big enough?)

I've seen up to 3 guages placed there with a single head unit. You can make your own plate, but there is one avaliable from Saab that fits right in for guages. But then, you will be looking down and away from where your driving.

Eventually, I plan to get the Mickey mouse ears and put my boost gauge and water temperature gauge on top, and leave the bottom space for less critical gauges like oil temperature, fuel pressure, and oil pressure.
