Greddy Type S bov and the ones on ebay?
Has anybody purchased the Type S or RS bov from ebay? They seem to be a lot cheaper and look the same. This is actually not for my car it's for someone elses...
Thanks

no... don't need it for FD. I was just wandering how good is it? I mean it looks exactly like Greddy Type S and it probably sounds the same. Why pay 150 for the real thing if all it gives you is the Greddy name on top of it.

Pretty much every knockoff part I've got off Ebay I've been disappointed with - poor fit, etc. That's just simple pipes and stuff. With something semi-complicated like a blowoff valve, I'd be much more worried.
There are some fine tolerances in a blowoff valve. If they're off, you end up with a leaky unit (lose boost) or one that sticks, resulting in compressor surge, which is a Bad Thing.
If money is that big of a deal (the Greddy BOV's are pretty cheap, all things considered) keep the stock BOV and open-air vent it. It makes great woosh noises all day long, is well built, and flows VERY well. Or, buy a used Greddy BOV - there's a ton of them out there. You'd be WAY better off with a used Greddy than a Chinese knockoff.

I think Modified magazine did some testing of a set of ebay items including the Greddy and HKS bov with scary results. They look the same, but the ebay copies just don't work sometimes. Not worth the risk of buying that crap. I wish the FEDS would crack down on that ****...

I use an authentic Greddy Type-S, and as a matter of fact, I believe the newest issue of Super Street with the Scion on the front, has an entire article dedicated to this topic.
Greddy stopped producing the Type-S BOV, and so alot of companies are producing knock-offs. According to the magazine, if I remember correctly, when they took one of these knock-offs apart and compared the guts, the parts were EXTREMELY cheap quality, and the BOV proved itself to be not near as effective.
Do NOT buy one of those knock-offs. I don't advise it.
Don't go cheap on an FD.
Cheap parts don't bode well with FD's. If you love the car, then don't put cheap QUALITY parts on it. Simple as that.
EDIT: I have an authentic APEXi Twin-Chamber BOV also. I want it gone. Would sell cheap. :P

do a search on this topic, i just had the same question you are asking. some previous threads actually helped my decsion to but a authentic greddy type s rather than a knock off.
basicly the knock off are very poor quality and have been known to fail. the purpose of the bov is to vent the pressure in the intake system when you let off. a faulty bov will surely cause turbo damage after time by pushing the compressor turbines into the housings...
for the a few extra bucks wouldnt you rather have the peace of mind knowing you have a quality product rather then something that may fail or leak causing $2000 worth of turbo damage because you decided to save $60-$70....this is the way i looked at it...
