Greddy FM IC 899 (opinions/ratings)

i noticed on rotor motorsports.com the greddy front mount intercooler is selling for 900 bucks, i was curious if anyone has any experience with their inter coolers.

How is the install, is custom work required?
Performance wise does it pay?
Can u still use the stock BOV or do u have to weld one onto either the new IC or the piping?
Does it fit well?
etc...
i would appreciate any help i could get. also if any of u have a pic of an rx with it that would be hot (prefferable vintage red)

i got mine from jason at the rx7 store. it was 899. wow i saved a dollar.

overall, i like the look and fit of the IC. on the scale of 1-10 (10=hard), i would rate this intercooler a 5. there were some frustrating areas during the install, and the instructions were poorly drawn. nocab72 here on the forum has a page for this install, and it helps....

stock BOV will be ok.
fitment is tight, but works with thought.
a/c relocation is a bit of a pain, and i recommend un hooking the lines to move the condenser. i broke the main discharge line on mine. but oh well....

when i get my intake temp probe relocated into the new greddy elbow, i can say how it dropped the temps....

i like it alot.....i CAN feel the difference on just 6 psi of boost.

I have mine installed. It took me about 2 good days, and a good 4 hours just to flush the coolant right.

This is one of the harder ICs to install since you must relocated so much. If you have cutters/sanders, it will be fine.

Hard parts is finding an intake that fits, second is finding a battery that fits ore you must relocate. You must cut the fiberglass reinforcement and you must trim the bumper cover.

Performance, it makes a HUGE difference in cooling espeically at night where intake temps drop like a rock. Pressure loss is almost none and "what lag?" My stock twins respond just as fast as before.

Make sure you have ZERO coolant problems before the install. you MUST have the fan mod done if not you WILL overheat.

For reference, on an 85 degree day cruising at 80mph in 5th, my temps go up to 195-202F with a mazdacomp radiator. Before iwth the stock IC, my temps were 186F on the same temp day.

Ok....now here is a related question that I thought of with regard to the choice of SMIC vs. FMIC based on average ambient temp where a person lives. For instance, for the average rotorhead looking to stay with the twin set-up and in the 300's RWHP, is it better to stay with the SMIC if summer temps are 100-110 degrees outside? Or does it not make much difference the reduction in flow across the radiator even on very hot days AND with the fan mod?

Thanks in advance.
