greddy elbow piping question

probably a stupid question. but ive searched and cant find anything(im in a hurry, might be why)

i bought the greddy elbow and pipe to stock IC from turboimport.com

arrived quickly, and looks good. however, it seems the pipe to IC is too short? i think i read something about this before but i cant find it now.

ive got it together but my 3in couplers BARELY! have any pipe to hold on too? whats the deal? (sorry if im retarded)

hmm, i have never heard of that before...

try to get in contact with the place you purchased it from...if they wont help you then try to contact greddy. that should not have came that way. request returning the pipe for a new one thats the correct length. if you have a fax machine you might be able to get them to ship you a return address and free postage.

Take some pics; a visual would help us better determine your problem. I've never heard of the pipe being too short...

hmmm, i was kinda thinking it was something im doing. but thinking about it a little more.....it really does seem like the pipe should be at least an inch longer on each end.

i guess i will try to contact them.

pics

here it is together(sort-of). notice the space at the elbow

i went ahead and took a coupler off, so youd have a better idea how far apart it is. remember, this is with just BARELY enough of the pipe in the coupler,on the IC end, to get the clamp on. in other words, youd see this much space at the IC end if i had the coupler off.

pipe too short?

Maybe it is on backwards? It looks like it is sitting really close to the alternator.

It does look like it is backwards (can't tell/remember if the pipe is symmetrical), but that wouldn't have anything to do with the length.

Maybe the metal mounting tab is bent forward, causing your intercooler to lean slightly away from the engine. That's the first thing I would check.

i just went and checked to see if there was any other way the pipe could be connected. its on there right. no other way was anywhere near matching.

well, ill have to check on the IC bracket being bent, but i dont think theres anyway it could be this far off. if i pull the IC towards the engine at all, it pulls away from the stock duct, so it seems they are both sitting exactly where they should be.

you guys both said it doesnt look quite right, maybe thats another clue i actually have a different pipe.

I don't think you have a different pipe, I just think that is a little strange.

You know what is funny... some people say their Greddy piping fits the Greddy SMIC perfectly. I had to cut my long pipe to get mine to fit, even though the Greddy piping fit my stock SMIC perfectly. I wish I had your "problem", I wouldn't have had to mod my pipe for my IC to fit...

this happened to me too a while back. but then i went back to the website where i purchased it and noticed that there was 2 different models, one for the stock i/c and one for the stock mount i/c greddy. that was my problem, im not sure if this is what you did though, the pipe that i had was quite a bit shorter than that IIRC.

Do you have all 3 pieces? It looks like you just have the elbow and the long piece. The kit i have has an extra piece that goes from the elbow to the longer piece.

correct. i have just the elbow and s pipe. the site i got it from does not offer other options than this, as far as which IC its being used for.

tmrw im gonna try and push back my IC and stock duct. if that doesnt work, i really dont know what ill have to do, other than get a different pipe.

That's the most logical explanation: as the GReddy IC is much thicker you need a shorter pipe!

There must be a longer one that fits the stock IC...

Get the GReddy SMIC!

sorry to bring up dead thread. I have a 2 row Greddy FMIC (stock turbo) using the stock elbow. I purchase a Greddy elbow now I need a longer intercooler pipe to match the elbow and intercooler (the 2nd pipe from the core). Can you guys give me the part number or tell me where I can buy this. The place I brought the elbow of is of no help

thanks

i am sure there is a forum member out there, getting rid of one for cheap. i'd make a post in the for-sale section. i dont believe you can order it as one, and if you could, they'd prob charge you a fortune for it.
